yeah the VR support is really edge case-y, the HOTAS support is much better
I donāt even know what I played this year.
Horizon Zero Dawn came out on PC, I bought it and it immediately bored me. I left the game running in the background though so it racked up hours and I couldnāt return it.
Marvelās Avengers was my big surprise this year because I thought Iād hate it and then I loved the campaign.
Total War: Three Kingdoms kept getting new stuff and I returned every time and loved it all
Tony Hawkās 1 + 2 was/is still fantastic
Baldurās Gate 3 early access was cool but I decided Iāll play it when itās done
Doom Eternal was the disappointment of the year.
Wolcen kinda sucked
CoD: MW2 Campaign Remastered didnāt hold my attention
Yakuza: Like A Dragon was the best AAA game of the year for me.
Best indie wasā¦ I donāt even know.
Games that I think came out this year that I still want to play: Project Wingman, Cyberpunk 2077, Panzer Dragoon Remake, BPM Bullets Per Minute, Battletoads, Wasteland 3ā¦ Oh yeah and DQXI: S or Definitive Edition or what itās called. I think thatās all. Quite the backlogā¦
What Iām looking forward to in the next year is Outriders and Path of Exile 2.
lol I never thought of that problem but itās certainly one Iād have too
MAIN GAMES I PLAYED THIS YEAR:
{ rating scale ~~~ (mega crap) to +++ (best game evar) }
halo master chief collection - itās halo. ++
life is strange 1 - affected me a lot actually. ++
kentucky route zero: art ass game about art ass art. really liked it ++
hey somebody should play Brenda Romero & coās Empire of Sin
Oddly Phoenix Point came out in a December and got similarly swallowed
they really, really, really shouldāve delayed phoenix point a few months
If youāve got a marketing budget then you can usually toughen out releasing three months early and youāve got the motivation because that money youāve committed is hard to get back if you push your date.
Anything smaller though and bad bugs will just kill your momentum.
Beaglerush not liking it may have singlehandedly killed that game
slow year!
13 sentinels is the big one for me,
hard lads and in other waters were cool smaller things.
i have the day off work today so going to hope umarangi generation works on my laptop.
I seem to have a cadence of keeping track of what games I play every other year. Last year I did good - this year I did not.
Control was my favorite, uh, mainstream game that I played this year. Well, maybe Animal Crossing. But no, I think Iād rate Control higher even though I played it less.
I literally canāt think of anything else I played that came out this year! I know I did, butā¦
Best surprise of the year was Earthworms, which I got for like 2 cents and made me laugh out loud more than any other game I can think of this year. I did not finish it and Iām fine with that.
My year has had a lot of gaming for comfort rather than new experiences, so itās no surprise I probably put 20-30 hours into Minecraft. Thatās less than I would have thought though, and I did not boot up Terraria to my recollection (which is good because that would mean iām depressed?). I did play about 12 hours of Fantasy Life but then I dropped my 2DS on the floor when i fell asleep playing Fantasy Life and it reset and I hadnāt saved in about 2 hours soā¦that was that.
Also beat Halo 1 and will probably beat Halo 2 in the MCC with a friend, so thatās fun. Oh and played about 10 hours of Divinity Original Sin co-op as well, but fell off that after getting annoyed with it.
Funny to look back on my own list
Shouldāve predicted cancelled for this one instead.
Also same for SMT5 if itās not cancelled yet.
Letās go 2021!
Is Bluepoint Games teasing a new remake or their first original game? If the latter then excited to see what they can do.
Disappointed this wasnāt the case. They really seemed like they were hyping it up something fierce so I kind of just assumed. Theyāre probably not exactly unhappy though about the praise Demonās Souls has been getting though.
Will SEGA find a successful way to market Sakura Wars in the west?
Pretty sure they didnāt!
That mysterious Capcom franchise revival project (itās Battle Circuit??)
Unsure what this was even rumoured to be now? Looking at lists and it seems like RE3 Remake was the only full game Capcom released this year. Their future projects are Resident Evil 8, Sengoku Basara 5 and their mysterious astronaut game Pragmata. The leaks seemed to indicate that Dragonās Dogma 2 was in the works though.
No substantial new info about No More Heroes 3 either I think.
Man, in terms of stuff that came out this year, Iām not sure thereās really much beyond Animal Crossing (stopped playing after 10 weeks or so), THPS (overdosed on it for like a week, havenāt gone back yet), and Art of Rally (130 hours played so far, hasnāt lost its appeal).
I need to play more Noita.
re Sakura Wars PS4:
they have made 1 (one) sale of the PAL disc version though, and i do not regret itā¦ yet. I havenāt really played it yet though!
Watchdogs3 did fail miserably (so far), and i will finish my wuff3.txt topic this year, promised.
Disaster Report 4 got an EU release, andā¦ . itās ambitious, but rubbish.
Ori 2 - got it, have not played it yet though.
FF7R: tres bien in ze french dĆŗb!
Assetto Corsa Competizione - 1920x1080p60 gloriousness
Command and Conquer 2 Remake on PC - should spend more time with it!
Yās 8 - gifted on steam, not played yet.
Star Ocean 1 remake on PS4 - actually need to pick that up again, stopped before RONNY X joins the party, was nice so far.
ā¦ think thatās it for 2020, Wattam still pending.
If that japanese train ride sven co-op map @Tulpa and I played through came out this year then thatās probably my 2020 goty otherwise Iād say yakuza 7
Came out near the end of last year!

from the description, so you know exactly what youāre getting
I might be forgetting something, but I think my top 2020 games would be
- Disaster Report 4 - I still think about this game a lot. Itās kind of a mess but itās great.
- Dreams - I donāt know that I will ever create anything real with this, but itās a lot of fun to play with the editor and see what others have made.
- Carrion - Met expectations without exceeding them. Just an enjoyable thing to play around in.
A couple honorable mentions:
- Amnesia Rebirth - Sure, itās no SOMA. But will they ever top SOMA?
- The Pedestrian - The next evolution of Continuity, with music that isnāt quite as catchy.
These might or might not belong in this list due to release date technicalities:
- Factorio - Has been available for ages, but now officially released.
- Golden Light - A complete game, but not yet officially released.
Still in the middle of or planning to try these ones:
- 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
- Creeper World 4
- Deadly Premonition 2
- FF7 Remake
- G-String
- Ikenfell
- Superliminal
- Telling Lies
Hereās my ranked list of 2020 releases that I played. These games all came to Switch this year, but most were available earlier on other platforms:
- Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm
- Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
- Operencia: The Stolen Sun
- Super Mario Galaxy
- EQQO
- Pocket Mini Golf
- Zombie Blast Crew
- Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition
- Journey of the Broken Circle
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Infini
- Syder Reloaded
My rankings for Oceanhorn 2 and Kentucky Route Zero were the biggest surprises to myself.
-
I bought Oceanhorn 2 against my better judgement. Oceanhorn 2 has many mechanical and some structural similarities to Ocarina of Time, and I very much dislike Ocarina of Time. But Oceanhorn 2 also has many structural, narrative, and thematic similarities to Final Fantasies and even Grandia. The environmental design and exploration is excellent. The combat and NPC interactions are lacklustre. Itās not a perfect game, but Iāve thoroughly enjoyed it. Its world is gorgeous, and Iāve loved poking around it. Oceanhorn 2 might also be one of the best-looking Switch games.
-
Kentucky Route Zero was a disappointment. I think itās really interesting aesthetically. But I also think itās absolutely uncompelling narratively and mechanically. I didnāt finish it, and I donāt know if Iāll ever come back to it.
Here are the other games I picked up this year. Iāve enjoyed them all to a similar degree:
- PICROSS S3
- Motorsport Manager for Nintendo Switch
- Sky Force Anniversary
- Bonds of the Skies
I have been side-eyeing this with renewed interest, glad to hear it is good.
I really like it, but donāt put too much stock in my opinion here. Some other folks in the Switch thread talked about being unimpressed by it on Apple Arcade.
