What if golf, but weird?!

This is a…umm…interesting understanding of Camelot.

Well tell me, man, tell me! ^ _^ I have, like, astoundingly little information on a lot of this. ; D

(I didn’t mean I thought Sony owned Camelot, that was hyperbolic shorthand reference to Camelot having made Minna no Golf for them.)

Oh heck I hadn’t realized Camelot started actually at Sega, for instance. ; ) But I suppose I skipped over the RPG stuff to their golf work, anyway.

Yeah, that was more what I meant. The whole Shining Force/Climax/Sonic stuff was where they got going long before golf came along.

But it all came down to golf.

Uh and maybe tennis I guess.

But let’s face it there’s way more weirding room with golf. = D

Sega waited until you got inside the case to hit you with the full weirdness of their photoshopping in PS3 launch title Miyazato San Kyoudai Naizou: Sega Golf Club, a conversion of the Sega AM2 Sega Golf Club arcade series that replaced the arcade’s Chihiro Satellite Terminal internet features with the licensed likenesses of the Miyazato pro-golfing siblings.

Pebble Beach Golf Links for the Sega Saturn

not that weird but this is:

I know this sounds super normie but bear with me:

ESPN Final Round Golf 2002 (GBA)

Developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Nagoya. Is the ball warping on long drives? Look at what happens with the tee sometimes! And…everything about the putting!

Newest Humble Bundle has some ones for this thread (some already mentioned)

The Gnome one reminds me that I wanted to start a thread about gold games with walkable/explorable courses because I think it’s neat

I had the crazy idea to port this to modern platforms. It’s already playable!

https://twitter.com/gingerbeardman/status/2045799736045695064

I’ve reverse engineered the Mega Drive games (all 4 courses), PC-98 (2 additional courses).

Though Sega Saturn (4 more courses) or PlayStation (2 of the Saturn courses) probably out of reach.

Couple more for Sharp X68000…plus a special bonus

Tim Country Club 1994

It’s like golf on some random paint splashes. The awkward controls make it more infuriating. But it kept me coming back.

Ball und Panzer Golf

(yes, it’s golf…in a tank)

(also, I made a version of this — with permission from my friend who made the above — for Playdate under the name of Fore! Track — though I removed the explosions because I don’t put guns in any of my games).

MazeBall for Mac, which emulates those old ball rolling toys, has a golf mode. I liked this because the one I had as a kid had a golf board!

Couldn’t find it documented on the internet but I noticed the first 4 of T&E Soft’s 5 Japanese Saturn golf game releases have an anamorphic “Widescreen” option that isn’t there in the Western versions (Pebble Beach and Valora):

\m/^o^\m/

(The anamorphic widescreen option adjusts the ground, characters, and GUI so they’re at the correct aspect ratio when you switch your display to 16x9.)

Hyper Golf hangs at the end of hole 4 in Mednafen so I guess I’ll have to figure out Ymir and put up with its generally glitchier graphics.

The full title of Pebble Beach Golf Links in Japan is PEBBLE BEACH GOLF LINKS ~スタドラーに挑戦~ (“Pebble Beach Golf Links: Stadler ni Chousen”)–last bit means “Challenge Stadler.” ^ _^

T&E Soft did other silly things, like publishing the Super Famicom version of Rise of the Robots * ; D

“T&E Soft Co., Ltd was founded in 1982, named after the founders, older brother Toshiro Yokoyama and his younger brother Eiji Yokoyama.”

“The abbreviation was later changed to Tri & Exciting and then Technology & Entertainment.”

  • *full disclosure I had RotR on Amiga ; D
    • I didn’t actually think it was that bad
      • But then the bar for fighting games on Amiga was not high
        • I mean it was one of the best ones ; DD

T&E Soft made Hydlide so they can do whatever they want after that (but also made Psy-O-Blade, Undead Line, the Laydock games, and the insanity of the Daiva series). Like so much before golf took over.

Capcom Golf (lost arcade game)

https://lostmediawiki.com/Ashita_Tenki_ni_Nāre/Capcom_Golf_(lost_build_of_arcade_game_based_on_the_golf_manga;_1991)

Ashita Tenki ni Nāre (あした天気になあれ, translation: There’s Good Weather Tomorrow, a.k.a. A Great Super Shot Boy) is a Capcom arcade game based on a golf-themed manga by Tetsuya Chiba. It was released in April 1991 in Japan and International as Capcom Golf. Capcom has developed games based on 70s and 80s manga series such as Area 88 (U.N. Squadron), Tenchi wo Kurau (Dynasty Wars), and Dokaben, and this is the fourth in the series.
Curiously, despite the information that this game was released, we have not been able to find a game or its board that is currently in operation, not even the Japanese version, let alone the international version.
