A few years ago I worked as an auditor at a hotel and had to post employee mistakes on a bulletin board. When there were no mistakes, i would draw something on the form. Usually I would do a pig face thing. But, for a short time, I did a series of winter/christmas pics.
Nothing original, just googled stuff and re-drew it onto the form. maybe 4 colors of Highilighters and sharpie were all I had. That grinch one took me like 3 tries.
do you think it’d make sense to raise the energy level when they logo appears? Watching this, I was strongly reminded of the excellent intro to Red Alarm:
Yeah, definitely more drums, maybe where you stop the melody, you shift into a higher energy one. This is from someone who’s written only a handful of (much worse) tracks than the one in your video; I can only evaluate the emotional journey, the cool slink-down-the-steps mood of the intro as news goes from bad to worse, and the logo treatment that begs for a kick-ass: Let’s do it! accompaniment
I used to tape a piece of Bristol board to my tablet to help with this. That combined with one of those uh…more gritty? nibs did a pretty decent job of replicating the feel of drawing on paper and replicating the kind of line I’d get using a crow quill.
I don’t use that nowadays cuz I’m mostly doing pixel art and when I do line art I’m not chasing the ideal line like I used to but hey it’s worth a shot if you got some old paper lyin’ around.
one of my favorite parts of creative work is doing the best you can and then getting little nudges that push it even better, and then internalizing what you’ve learned
