Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

The extra content in Radiant Historia 3DS really lacks the writing quality of the base game and doesn’t offer interesting new challenges. It fits the new portraits, honestly…

I haven’t really noticed many differences with the main game in the remake.

I don’t recommend the remake and would not be surprised if it was done by an entirely different team.

(Oh, you can buy DLC to put the older better portraits back… it’s a shameful price grab and doesn’t even apply everywhere)

I only played the DS version, which I got shortly before the remake was announced, I think.
The new character art alone makes me feel like the original is the preferred version. I’m not sure if the QoL improvements are that necessary honestly. Having to fight the same battles over and over is a bit annoying but battles were fairly infrequent in most field areas and easy to avoid IIRC.

nostalgia. I grew up on a the genesis I want to play some of these games as I did years ago and every usb genesis pad is six buttons.

Would the Genesis Mini be a good choice if I want a hackable box for all my retro gaming? Would a RPi4 be better?

If you mean this curator and not another group, gimme a blurb for it. I was given the admin rights to conduct evil (trying to finangle use out of Steam’s awful group features like calendars that in the end were useless) so if someone wants something in the curator let me know.

Wasn’t there a specific thread for that from a while back? Maybe it should be pinned for easy access and reminders that it exists. Edit: this one I guess? Seems small for the amount of reviews though.

Wouldn’t it be cool if anyone could submit a curation recommendation for approval by an admin or even automatic posting? That would make too much sense for steam.

wow, Everdrives are really expensive, huh?

i had the thought of picking up the Genesis Mini, but then remembered that the Analog SG is a thing (that is better). but wow, those flash carts…i’m assuming Everdrive is the best option?

If you just want to play ROMs and don’t care about physical cart support it’s fairly trivial to get homebrew going on the Mini

yeah, no, i’m specifically interested in the Analog SG because of quality of emulation etc. hacking the Mini is definitely the more affordable choice, though.

If you want to go cart then EverDrive is probably best since Analogue officially supports them. There’s also “jailbreak” firmware that’ll load ROMs off the SD card slot.

I’m assuming if you use them on an Analog you don’t even need to worry about voltage tolerance issues on some of the models, yeah?

Like if you use an actual genesis a MegaEverdriveX5 is the only model that won’t overload your console and potentially damage it, last I checked. But the analogs were designed with parts that can handle the increased voltage, IIRC?

Anyway I have an MegaEverdriveX5 and an SD2SNES and I’ve loved both of them dearly for every year I have had them.

Although I also am a stickler who prefers to play them on CRTs and shit so I’m a weirdo.

what is the definitive 2000s abandonware/weird pc game archive? does anyone exclusively deal in windows xp-core software as opposed to dos shit

The Internet Archive is probably the best bet, even if it is kind of a mess. There isn’t an XP-dedicated collection like there are for DOS and 3.1, but the CD-ROM Software Library gets kinda close.

Has anyone in here ever played Dragon Quest 1+2 for the Game Boy on a B&W Game Boy like the original or the Pocket? AFAIK it works on both, but I can’t find any screenshots or footage of it running on a black and white Game Boy, so I have no idea what to expect once my Game Boy Light gets here

home of the underdogs, when it was active, was not an abandonware site, because it dealt as frequently with contemporaneous software as it did with old works.

also its very 00s aesthetic by its very age
