Games You Played Today ##RELOAD

Finished Read Only Memories. I really liked the A/V and other than a rush to the climax, the writing was really good. The game is short on actual game but it was a nice little experience, and not once was I ever nice to Jess. Give sass, get sass. Even got an achievement for it.

How many times will I test to see if a wad is working properly only to get distracted and play all the way through Knee Deep In The Dead

Also, I’ve now played through episode 1 enough times to say that I really don’t enjoy E1M7: Computer Station? It’s just complicated enough that I think it messes with the pace of the other maps. Everything’s smooth until that map, and then afterward you have that really great E1M8 showdown.

I don’t have decades of experience with DOOM, though, so I may still be a nubbin. A lot of DOOM maps seem to aim for being massive, slowly paced affairs later on, and that’s–well, that’s gonna come down to taste, I think. I like exploration if it’s something I do because I want to know how deep the rabbithole goes in a level, but if it means several mazes obfuscating where keycards are, I get a bit bored.

Last night I played Videoball with a room full of strangers, with Tim Rogers standing a few feet away talking about Videoball which I think is like some sort of inverse Zen koan

Doom’s potential level design contains multitudes. Its original maps aren’t always notable for their quality necessarily, but rather as models for “the kinds of things you can do with this engine.”

Actually. I think if he was dealing with anything real in his life it would be far more readable, and not a series of LiveJournal posts like Braid devolved into.

take me with you.

I was making reference to an article about the Witness as it was being developed, in which Blow showed off a version of it and the audio logs were literally full of a dude wondering about his male pattern baldness. Even the article writer, who was super duper pro Blow in about every way, noted that it was hard not to connect this to the completely bald dude in charge of the game.

Oh nifty!

Dipping my toes into DS emulation. Ran through some of Super Princess Peach for the first time since it was contemporary. A favorite of mine, a great looking and feeling game. A little annoying to play with single-screen, but it’s a workable trade-off to see it running big at 15khz. Seems like the programming/art guys all worked on the Starfy games. These are the last non-Paper-Mario Mario sprites created, right? Is there new stuff in Mario Maker (like, excluding the NSMB-rips)? Does Wario count? I guess Master of Disguise and Shake-It were released later.

Never seen this stuff before:

Apparently there are unused Koopaling sprites in the gamedata. An early screenshot without the lock-and-key Emotion powers; hints at it possibly being a more typical Mario-ish type game during development - and perhaps an even more direct Yoshi’s Island follow-up than it already is.

that axe thread about me playing zelda 1 died cos I dropped it for a couple of weeks but I’m back at it. bought a magic shield and tried level 6 again and it took about three minutes before my shield got eaten trying to slay blue wizzrobes. bluuuugh

also been playing super mario 64 ds, it does not control as well with the 3ds circle pad as I hoped it would. the inclusion of extra characters is very strange. but I’m having fun!

I could move that thread out of the trash if you want.

I played ten minutes of grow up

it is more tutorial-y and more collect-y than grow home

I will give it the benefit of the doubt so far

:\

Body is invalid; try to be a little more descriptive

Fuck you discourse devs you don’t know better than me
