The shot of Enzo and AndrAIa getting escorted into the game (that they lose) - is that a JFK reference!?
Looks it. That’s so wild. I never noticed it before.
It’s subtle and no kid should recognize it, but dang.
Solid foreshadowing. Probably the darkest thing they slipped in.
The n looking thing is an eta, so assuming the first letter is a lowercase delta (which I could see confusing with the sigma you initially wrote), the word is diseia
You can break out dis- and -eia but it’s nonsense as far as I can tell. No entry in my lexicon.
EDIT Seems more likely it’s a bad play on Disney by someone who doesn’t know Greek? I don’t know that that makes any sense in context
Reboot Wiki mentions some things by names but doesn’t explain where they got the names.
The game name is Immortal Konflict.
Show production art mentions the game name. That may be where the wiki got it from or maybe they had access to a script or something?
The wiki has the user character name as Zaytan. I don’t know if they have a source or if they are just transcribing the announced name.
From rewatching the episode,
The game has a weird stylized font where the d looks like a reversed sigma and the a looks a bit like an alpha, so when I watched it earlier (and I wasn’t paying attention to the text prior) Disnia in the weird font confused me. It’s not Greek lettering. It’s just a stylized font. That’s clear from the other things written during the game.
When it shows Enzo’s chosen character it says Disnia,
which might be a weird play on Disney.
I googled Disnia. Disnia doesn’t seem to be or mean anything, except it is a Spanish language Disney-fan internet community that probably didn’t exist yet when the episode was written.
Disnia is definitely related to the character: Character name or character class.
Most of the game characters are unnamed. There are four characters who are exceptions:
three names are written
three names are announced
For the two characters who get both; the spoken and written names don’t match.
In order of appearance:
Announced: Satan/Zaytan
Not written
Announced: Angel
Written: Empyrean
Not Announced
Written: Somsata
Announced: Matrix
Written: Disnia
When “Matrix” is announced it isn’t announced the same as the other two announced names and it seems to be Enzo Matrix saying it through his ninja mouth covering rather than it being announced by the announcer.
And this reminds me that the games in Reboot often had inconsistencies which almost seemed like they were intentionally meant for discouraging people from overanalyzing them.
Ranking of Kings is really impossibly charming. A wonderful little fairy tale/storybook anime. I had no expectations going in but the extreme willingness to play it’s cartooniness and fantasy elements purely straightforwardly but done with an incredible amount of care is a great mix. It has the cadence of like the best bedtime story a kid could hear although it’s maybe slightly too dark and bloody for like little kid kids.
I watched SSSS.Dynazenon, which is pseudo-sequel to SSSS. Gridman, in a single sitting last night. I think the latter (that is, the first series) is probably superior, but the newer joint wasn’t half bad. They both occasionally delight with subtle humor, and if you love watching giant robots battle kaiju, hey, you got that too.
One of the kaiju in particular in Dynazenon is super cool, it’s a shame that it got about 2 minutes of screen time. But this isn’t really an action show. The battles are just the backdrop for the character drama, and I’m down with that.
Jellystone ain’t half bad! It’s a similar level of comic hijinks compared like, Gumball maybe. I got a couple of Sensible Chuckles out of the first episode, anyway
