EVERY MORNING I JUST HIT THE GROUND YAWNING AND AHAAAAAAAAA
I recently introduced this song to someone and got hooked all over again.
I have heard this song for years on KEXP but could never place the lyrics to find it, but today it came on so I could finally learn the name and artist
Chakra - Sensei
Chakra, featuring the vocals of Mishio Ogawa (whose song âKiokuâ I posted earlier in this thread), doing quite an inspired, new wave cover of Masako Moriâs âSenseiâ which Iâll also post below for reference
Chakra rule! I accidentally discovered them back when it was relatively easy to stumble upon interesting artifacts from the past on youtube (these days it just feels like rubbing your eyes against a tabloid newspaperâŚ) I came across their album Satekoso (produced by none other than Haruomi Hosono of YMO) which served as a gateway to discovering a bunch of other Japanese new wave stuff (and beyond!), would heavily recommend people check out that album too. I feel like no two tracks are the same on it, I regularly listen to it to this day â Itâs so good!! Ogawaâs vocal range gets stretched past the point of sense. Some songs she screams out of tune, others she has such acute control reaching really difficult high notes, others have her singing at such a low tone that youâd swear it was a different vocalist altogether⌠Itâs kind of miraculous!
She is so goodâŚthat clip of fuku no tane is actually one that i posted and ripped off of nico nico douga at some point just to have available on youtube. Digging around there i found this interesting half-acoustic/koto heavy (?) version of wha-ha-haâs âakatereâ she did with haniwa all stars, a sort of supergroup including ogawa and some members of chakra
Hang on⌠youâre Brock2097?! This is hilarious!! You post great stuff on youtube, been subscribed for years!
Yeah, that version is great! I figure you probably already know about this album with another recording of it and the video performance to go along with it (was half expecting your channel to pop up again when searching for it, haha!)?
Haha, yep, thatâs me and thatâs a fantastic show, yes. Definitely see that circle of artists similarly to you as a window into JP experimental/alt music of that era, like YMO is just the tip of the iceberg of sorts, and I still keep listening in awe years later
Exactly! Here I was thinking no one knew what the hell I was posting about⌠Man, I had no idea!!
This is so sweet⌠Iâm not crying, youâre cryingâŚ
now that youtube is suddenly making unlisted playlists publicly available, iâm discovering that a real cool album a couple of my irl friends made in 2011 can be enjoyed by the entire world.
