surprised that this worked out, but i got my hands on one of two Seiko Prospex (Alpinist wannabe) the store got allocated, second one probably gets sold later today… so for once, i got it, instead of being ‘ah damn, id i’d known earlier…’
so, feelin’ kinda lucky today!
(some 140th anniversary model, i should add)
Watchface is supposed to harken back to Ginza cobblestone pavement and color and [insert marketing blurb here] it’s just a nice looking watchface, that’s enough to sell me on it, aye.
If it’s nicer weather outside, will take a pic and post it here.

weather: still not nice, so, will have to do with boring indoor shot for now.
that doesn’t do the watchface fully justice, but it is harder than i thought to get a good, clean shot. Its turquoise shimmering can be seen in the upper right corner, though it isn’t as shiny/intense as the picture makes it out to be.
Also, love the tiny two illuminated dots at the 3h position,
because i am a sucker for tiny details like this as well.
tl;dr-version: That's a nice watch, duh!

for those who want to try getting that model, the model-code is SPB259J1, but with 750 bucks, it’s pricey, beware.
otoh, that watch serves three purposes at once, could be a watch for work, a daily driver (since it is not too big and too-flashy) and even pass as a dress watch (as long as the attire isn’t too flashy, obv).
The normal prospex divers look a bit less flashy/fancy,
Pics of the Casios mentioned in my last post. The blue dial one has such perfect proportions and the Kanji day window makes it a nice reminder of my Japan trip where I bought it.

I didn’t post this but I immediately broke the watch crystal by dropping it the first time I took it off. It just cracked down the left side and part of it totally shattered
Turns out one can buy watch crystals very cheaply though. Problem is that they’re quite difficult to install…well.
But an inability to do a thing well has never stopped me! So I ordered three slightly different sized ones (they’re measured in tenths of a millimeter and I can’t measure anything that accurately) for like, 9 bucks.
First attempt was a failure, it came out right away. I used super glue, but not enough because I was afraid of it showing.
I waited about a week and tried again with way more glue. And it worked! Sort of. You can see the glue a little bit on the edges.
But whatever! Now I have a flat watch face made of better glass that won’t explode upon first contact.

started wearing my casio f91-w after god knows how many months/years… it was 2 minutes off and the calendar was 1 date off (said it was 12/25 instead of 12/24). love the functionality. now it’s back synced with NIST time
best watch NA/EU
did i tell yall about the guy who filled it with olive oil and stuck it to the bottom of an oil rig for a week? it still worked

So I splurged (and took advantage of a sale) and picked up a Garmin Instinct Solar, specifically in the Sunburst color
It has a bunch of features that I will probably never make adequate use of but I love the watchface too much and it has ridiculous battery life for a smartwatch(ish) device. Readout currently says 26 days with just about all the bells and whistles turned on

I was worried that it would look bad on my pasty flesh but it works. And I figured with the kinda chunky “rugged” design that it was never going to look sleek anyway so I might as well get a loud color that will work as a statement with whatever outfit I’m wearing
(And I don’t think I’d ever wear a watch if I had buttoned long sleeves on anyway)

I think I’ve shared this fellow’s videos elsewhere but this one is wild. Homeboy rolled the dice and paid $2,000 for a non-working watch off of ebay and fixed it up (it needed minimal work all things considered)
