watch brain engage!

since i’m liking the perlon on the orion, i’ve been thinking of getting a nice strap for my seiko skx013. probably something >$30, I’ve tried a lot of cheaper straps and they just end up getting tossed.

  • Colors: Trying to think of what goes with my medium brown skin. Black, white? off white, cream, honey? I have a lot of “drab” so thinking of a fun color that might pop in the summertime.
  • Strap types: my brown rally strap, the style and color is great, but on my skin doesn’t quite pop like i want it to. Black rally straps look really sharp. and I like the subtle irony of a dive watch on a racing strap  But for the hot weather coming up, I was thinking something breathable in a light color, that won’t stain too bad with sweat…
  • Straps I already have: I could always throw it back on the stock jubilee bracelet I guess. I also have a Vintage Bond NATO strap that looks great but is not super comfortable - I don’t like most NATOs because they have that ridged nylon feel. And the colorscheme is more “winter” to me.

oh I’m hearing that “tropic” style rubber straps have a waffle pattern on the inside that limits contact with skin… interesting… would be practical for me in the dc heat.

How do you feel about bracelet style straps? Back when I owned an SKX my go-to was the miltat oyster strap for an OEM-ish look only way more hefty and robust. I had the midsize 007 variant though I’m not sure it would suit the 013. It was pretty heavy.

funny you ask… i really like the stock jubilee but i lost one of the links and so it’s a bit small for me now. also the clasp doesn’t stay shut without the flip lock anymore. but it’s really comfy and lightweight, breathable in a way… and it has a nice side-to-side flex that you don’t get with heavier bracelets. hollow end links and hollow center links.

now i’m debating whether to buy another OEM bracelet on ebay or to get an aftermarket one. uncle seiko / yobokies / strapcode

Hodinkee “Logan” Perlon in Marigold
(build quality is surprisingly poor – pointy edges, but I’ve got it to be wearable by turning the keeper inside out and having it cover the melted edge)

looks good I think, like turmeric or sandalwood. the colors of my people

… feel like this might really pop with a blue dial diver

It’s true!! I got through approximately 1 1/2 Wristwatch Revival vids and a cartoon lightbulb went off over my head and i was like “all of the little gears in there … they turn like that … and there’s no electricity in there??!”

Afaict my taste in watches runs to:

  • anything with a fun use of gears/watch innards as part of the design. I want a Bulova Accutron spaceview so bad
  • chunky 80s stuff, special soft spot for the yellow GShock that reminds me of the Pikachu tamagotchi-thing i had as a kid
  • literally anything with a moon phase. I looked at @stylo blankly when i first learned about it like “why does this exist” and pretty soon i was searching every part of the internet like “i MUST have a tiny moon upon my wrist”

I hate:

  • circles. Every watch brand is a coward. “Symmetry” is for idiots, with no VISION. I want to see 8 sea slug body type watch plans in my feed immediately!!!

Also i don’t like wearing watches because most jewelry and accessories give me sensory problems but i don’t think that’s important

As a grocery store register worker it’s basically the best thing that could happen for someone to make a forum post where they compliment me so thanks on her behalf

with my two seikos I am already well prepared for any occasión, however,

this one is tempting me a bit. Panda watchfaces are not my schtick, but this beauty somehow pulls it off.
