VR SUCKS... or does it???

Nah it’s for the kids and I can’t get a play in edgewise

i got my psvr headset back, i did it, i bought the fishing game, it rules. actually i don’t know about the actual fishing i can’t figure out how to catch the fish very well. but you can buy and eat sandwiches that you keep in a lunch pail.

ebay emailed me a $15 coupon code, for some reason, and I used to it buy a $15.89 redeem code for Everybody’s Golf VR and i had a pretty good time out there on the links with my new ever-present anime girlfriend. i looked it up and there are a number of reddit threads to the effect of “can you mute the anime? how to disable caddy?”, you can’t do it, it can’t be done.

i’ve watched some tips vidz, over the years, and they uniformly recommend finding a way to position your playstation camera up high, to get better move/headset tracking - finally got that rigged up, by making a little thumbtack jig above a window that I can slide the bundled mini-stand into, and it does seem to improve things.

resident evil 7 is $10 right now, but I don’t want to play it.

superhot is $10 right now and I do want to play it, played a few minutes a number of years ago on a friend’s vive, so I bought it but haven’t played it yet.

it’s so good!!!

excited for you

i played Super Hot and it was good

i, uh, also bought an Acer WinMR setup for $80 yesterday, and also played it on that, and got my trusty Driving Force Pro out of the closet and setup Assetto Corsa and did 20 minutes or so of driving up an Italian mountainside in a Mini without getting instantly sick ala Dirt Rally PSVR.

the PSVR is more comfortable and also surprisingly seems to track better, but may need to do some further looking into how to optimize room/lighting for the inside-out tracking?

RE7 is good and was the first VR game I played but I did not know how much body horror stuff was in the game so I got quickly overwhelmed with it in the few hours I played. I intend to go back and finish the game, but maybe not in VR.

I just played the first 20 minutes or so of Paper Beast and it kind of blew my mind. It’s very weird and beautiful. Throws a lot of curveballs at you! It’s the biggest sense of wonder I’ve gotten from a VR game. I think it’s still free with the Play at Home promotion thing Sony’s doing. If you have PSVR, don’t miss it!

It’s exactly like being inside of one of those 90’s experimental computer graphics videos where they tried to simulate organisms.

I saw a few genetic evolution + physics sim creature games at school, I think it’s a rite of passage for an engineer to implement at some point

oh man it didn’t do anything for me at all! felt totally limp and like it was coasting on trying to inspire a sense of awe that was just not gonna be there under any circumstances

RE7, wipeout, and polybius honestly did way more for me than that but if you want ~~ wonder ~~ I will go to bat for the under presents anytime

Well, we’ll see if I still feel this way after I’ve played more than 25 minutes, but I really enjoyed exploring that abstract landscape, surrounded by enormous, weird animals full of personality.

I liked it too, in my one play session. I spent a really long time flinging the little dirt pile bugs around before i figured out what i was supposed to do. I didn’t mind.

I have figured out that my Acer headset had only been rendering at 60hz because the r9 380x’s HDMI port can’t output more than that at over 1440p, and in the meantime bought Microsoft’s recommended active Displayport->HDMI adapter, and also did a little looking and read that Windows MR supports 45-to-90fps motion reprojection in SteamVR (and I guess everything else) if you like, opt into betas and turn it on, etc.

It doesn’t seem to work, though, which if the documentation is to be believed is because the oldest AMD card to support it is the 480. Hmm, but why though?

Anyways there is an Assetto Corsa mod track that is a recreation of 150km or so of the Shuto Expressway at PS3 game fidelity and running it at night with the aftermarket shader/weather upgrades grinds my machine to dust

I hear this is the good shit, it is the only time I have felt jealous of PC VR

Seems pretty neat, yeah, driving around on the freeway maybe not exactly up my specific car fantasy alley, but extremely cool effort, perfect next gen online play life for the Genki racer fans.

My friend just launched their first VR game on steam!

So um check it out if you want to do bowling in VR!

multiple oil settings…incredible…

Yeah! Apparently some other VR bowling games don’t simulate the oil patterns on the lane at all.

Yeah that’s cool as hell, sadly I don’t have VR capabilities
