relatedly, i think the only thing i miss about point & click adventures that aren’t mystlikes is the ability to smash cut between loads of radically different camera angles (without it getting in the way of player performance like devil may cry)
guilty gear is the best video game
I wouldn’t mind if Sony wanted to crack down on some of the repetitive shovelware that hits the PS4 store every week.
the wii remote condoms:

I feel like this has gotta be like some UIUX false truth. Like, when you’re playing Resident Evil 4 you’re not focused on your character you’re focused on what’s in front of your character. People that are good at Street Fighter are looking at their opponent. The player character is possibly an anchor for information but, like… Once you get good at a game you’re not looking at it anymore
It’s a combination of attention being directed to the largest element on the screen (visual hierarchy principle) as well as the element that most recently moved dramatically (tendency to safety check moving objects). Games with over the shoulder cameras/lock on/fighting games usually frame two subjects for focus - the player character and their closest opponent. As a result attention likely switches between the two (and the space in between) but likely gravitates toward the incoming threat most of the time. These elements do also usually take up the central third of the screen.
The player avatar moves the least out of everything else on the screen
it’s the thing you want to measure everything else’s proximity to, though
Idk that just proves to me that you’re almost never looking at the player avatar
You tend to look at the largest moving element the most but also its relative distance to the player character (which doesn’t move so much). This is why I think one’s general focus oscillates between the two. But yes your attention ultimately focuses the most on the most immediate threat.
(pretty sure the laughtrack was added in post)
yeah “look at this dood” is a classic

The name of the group “No Intro” that makes all of those pristine romsets is a cheeky (passive-aggressive?) reference to ye olde software pirates that would taint their dumps of, like, Amiga games with silly cracktros and such.
i had pirate copies of ps1 and dreamcast games with cracktros!
having a massive bout of nostalgia for buying copies of ps1/dreamcast games off a lad at school and later my dad’s friend
had a fuckin sick cd with win95 osr2 and a ton of utils + dos games
I want to spell powerups as “powerups” and I’m just gonna do it.
