yeah ok I guess it would’ve had to have been the DS just for the audio to not get butchered
although even sampled audio sounds like canned ass coming out of the DS, 32khz coming out of whatever speakers, I remember being taken aback by how much better the CD OST version of FFTA2 sounded because I didn’t realize how badly it had been butchered on the hardware
I was also savvy and my first experience of SotN was the unlockable game in Dracula X Chronicles, which was only $5 more than the PS1 classic and I’m pretty sure it’s just the PS1 version unaltered
Believe chronicles X is the XBLA version with the new translation. So no What Is A Man or I am Interested In This.
Taking notice that the Japanese Ocarina of Time boxart sucks:
JP Majora with Expansion Pack
Into the consistent design of American Zelda art.
Oh knew I wouldn’t have to look hard for this:
Genuinely if you do, play sonic colors ds. It doesn’t really have the dimps aesthetic but it has all the benefits of their emphasis on speed without any of their bottomless pits and spikes. A really neat little game imo.
the way that it sounds like people are screaming ’ oh shitttttttt ’
once they get rolled up during the sumo level in we katamari
How Nazis in video games are just a variety of bad guy, like zombies or ninjas. They might as well be The Foot Clan. This isn’t a profound realization, I know. I just think about it every time I see some new WWII thing that gleefully trots them out to chew the scenery.
one of the things i keep thinking about with Wolfenstein is how the nazis are both extremely threatening and absolutely pathetic. It’s risky trying to spend so much time with nazis using cool robots to murder you without making them either a bland threat or Actually Pretty Cool. Walking that line of dangerous-but-pathetic is really cool. Nobody else has done it IMO.
the banjo on the outer wilds main title isn’t a delay effect, it’s the first and last track recorded for the game
it’s also instantly overwhelming when I hear it
BE PRAYING
BE PRAYING
Between Outer Wilds and Disco Elysium I am actually a little in awe of how convincingly these new games, made in our degraded time, are actually The Best games in their respective ancient PC-game genres. It doesn’t seem as though it should be possible. If someone makes a realtime dungeon crawler that beats Daggerfall my soul will ascend to heaven
Dungeon Master is better than Daggerfall and that was the first real time dungeon blobber
sounds like a challenge to me
lobby music from ‘tetris friends’ (which i have not played in years) popped into my head while i was trying to meditate this afternoon
Party based? Get outta here with that
I think I made this post verbatim several times in 2019 trying to wrap my own head around it
To what ancient PC genre does Outer Wilds belong? Scratching my head a day later
it’s a Mystlike! one of the only credible ones from the past decade!
90s dads who loved Myst would be completely flummoxed by Outer Wilds’ control scheme though
