I think about how Megami Tensei II has some cool designs, specifically, the Dark Hero’s weird, organic demon armor and the heroine’s rad sort of wild west witch outfit.

The protagonist has some wicked hair. I also love the makeshift armor that the early games displayed in the art. SMT1’s hero wears that weird sports padding over his normal outfit and the MT2 hero wears his shelter uniform under a cloak, kneepads, and a vest of pockets.

Also, how the plot of MT2 is sort of proto Fallout-ish with Demons. You’re a kid living in a Tokyo-Yokohama shelter after the Great Cataclysm (the apocalypse) who plays a computer game that winds up unsealing the demon Pazuzu who tells you and your friend you’re the Messiahs who’ll save Tokyo but that you also unsealed a bunch of other demons who have been released into the world so he gives you a devil summoning program and your friend spells and sends you above ground.

what is “Dire, Dire Docks” supposed to even mean? there’s nothing particularly bad or disastrous about that level. is it because you’re boarding Bowser’s sub?

that the turks in ffvii are totally based on the group that attack johnny cage in the movie within a movie that johnny cage is filming in the movie mortal kombat. even the music has a similar tone.

That weird period in the mid 2000s when the quality of a MMORPG seemed to be judged almost exclusively on how many players could be in a party at once.
