I remember using the Game Genie unlimited acceleration code in that mall. I think of the title screen music for this game a lot. Especially how the s in skate is pronounced and the part that starts at 1:42.
Also,
- In Shadow of Destiny, when Homunculus says, “I mean, who cares, really?”
- In Gradius 5 Stage 2, when the subtitles don’t quite match the spoken line “I guess I have no choice.”

in persona 5, when you examine the empty cardboard box in your bedroom, the generic voice sample they use for morgana’s reaction is just him enthusiastically saying “wow!”
it always stuck with me because I imagine that’s how all actual cats react when they encounter an empty cardboard box

Also, what it sounded like in my city’s biggest arcade when I was a kid. The place was a huge three-story building, and the sound of certain games dominated certain areas. For example, there was the Gladiator area, the (three-screen) Darius area, and the area where Space Ace was way too loud.
Also, how in the smaller arcade closer to my house, all the little basketballs in the free-throw game had “Stolen from Tilt” written on them in marker. (The arcade was called “Tilt.”) I don’t really think about this a lot, but mentioning the other arcade reminded me of it.

I’m not sure if this is a videogame thing or a non videogame thing, but lately I’m kinda fixated on how annoyed I am that every video game website is also de facto an anime website.
I know there’s a lot of audience overlap.
But that doesn’t mean every fucking video game journalist needs to do an Evangelion podcast.
