how harassed online would I get if I made ROM hacks for old racing games that stopped the player character from being explicitly gendered male?

sorry, people will only defend you if you need to fabricate an excuse for having a character in an SNES game use the word tranny

Okay so in 007: Agent Under Fire, you can do Bond Moves (which are like, hilariously obvious, signposted things you can do) that apparently embody Bond’s quick-thinking etc. Whenever you do one, the game plays a sting, in this case a little snippet of Bond movie music.

So a lot of times when I do something even remotely clever I hear one in my head.

Low gravity + Q Claws in multiplayer = “Spiderman with guns” is a video game thing I think about a lot.

Watching that Zelda Spaceworld 97 remake video made me think like… have you guys ever noticed how some people just go absolutely insane over unreleased games or beta versions of stuff that just looks fucking terrible? But then, if it were released and got a 60 on metacritic they would never play it?

I guess people just get this idea of a game in their mind and their imagination takes over, like that Prey 2 game or that dragon game Platinum was making. Imagine if Balan Wonderworld got cancelled (like it prolly shoulda been)… people would be making youtube vids about “the Sonic creator’s lost masterpiece we never got”.

i may have asked you this already but what’s your take on why bofiv > iii?

i played through quite a bit of 3 last year for the first time and enjoyed it but got kind of bored with the battle system around some point where you’re stuck in the desert and just stopped playing. at the time i wanted to go through both iii and iv, but i was afraid iv was going to just be more of the same in a prettier outfit. is it really that much better?

the story and characters are a lot better, and from what i remember*, it relies a lot less on weird gimmicks and minigames like what 3 does (the desert you mention, plus a few other parts i remember hating like collecting the ingredients for shisu, activating the reactors in the lighthouse, etc.). the one big advantage i’ll give 3 is that the dragon transformation system is a lot more interesting in that gme than in 4. but 4 makes up for that by having each character in your party have their own little quirks in battle

i guess that makes it sound like 4 is less varied? but what i’m getting at is that it’s just a really well made, written, and designed rpg to the extent that it doesn’t need that stuff to break it up

*note: i’ve played 3 a bunch of times and 4 only once, so the details of 4 aren’t as entrentched in my mind. this is because i had 3 as a kid, and didn’t play 4 until i got it on vita, btw.

I foolishly watched a let’s play of Detroit: Become Human and if the kid is an android all along why is it that when the cops ask the motel guy if he’d seen any androids he says no

I know the answer is “because David is a hack” but like, cmon dude

I misposted this in the non video game thread and now Discourse is telling me I can’t post it here because it’s too similar, nice, thanks
