how a big motivator for buying old games in the 00s was that it was so much cheaper than buying current ones. you could go to a shop in town and snes and mega drive games for a pittance, and the consoles for not much more. and ps1 and saturn games were in a similar situation (to be fair though, japanese ps1, famicom, and super famicom games are still very cheap with obvious exceptions).
now all these dickhead speculators have invaded and old games are a luxury novelty item now.
Thatâs surely in part because the Japanese economy has been stagnant over the same period. Itâs not really a blessing for Japanese players because even though most things have remained pretty cheap, their income is even lower. Whenever I hear stories or statistics about typical wages Iâm always gobsmacked at how little Japanese workers are rewarded for their extremely long hours on the job.
I understand you live in the UK which is unfortunate enough to share a language with the mostly US-based speculators though, so I can see how the situation is especially irritating
Itâs been three months but Iâm still thinking about how this trailer
Uses a slow moody whispery version of this
That song was on MTV and VH1 and on the radio all the time when I was youngerâŠthey gotta stop doing this, hahaha.
Edit: whereâs my horror game trailer with single piano note stingers, ethereal barely audible voice echoing outâŠâif it hadnât been for Cotton-eyed JoeâŠâ
A post was merged into an existing topic: non videogame things you TRULY REALLY VERILY think about an ACTUAL lot
why the fuck are sony regularly remaking 10 year old games now? until dawn looks fine and runs on a ps5
I hate how gigantic the magic pixel is for enemy lifebars in Borderlands 1, and it might be my favorite part of the game. I immediately missed the lack of bullshit on the healthbar in BL2.
Idiots keep buying them
The games in Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classicsâone Naomi game, with the rest being CPS2 gamesâhave a âFullâ aspect ratio settingâI think thatâs the default; itâs the one that fits their sidebar art perfectlyâthat is 77x54 aspect (1540x1080 on my 1080p screen). But that stretches big round things in the backgrounds slightly wide vs the âFull 4:3â aspect setting (1440x1080):
What would that âFullâ aspect ratio be for, then?
(Itâs not CPS2 pixel resolution, thatâs 384Ă224 ie 12:7.)
Watching GameSack talk about Shadows of Rome and finding out it was the same team as Dead Rising and just shouting Same Game Same Game.
Seeing things like this makes me think back on what less-discerning Boomers thought about videogames in the 80âs as being a digital collage of nonsense
The more things change etc
I dropped my jaw the PS5 version came out 17 Months Ago.
Seems completely fine on ps4/xbone.
Nevermind: lol 2 minute load times lol
Itâs amazing that the PC version is apparently still borderline unplayable on anything shy of the highest end hardware. I figured theyâd have this shit figured out by now.
I guess by the time my low-mid tier PC can run it theyâll be giving it out in Humble Bundles or something. Not in a huge rush to see the continuing adventures of âCal Kestis.â
What makes Astro Botâs blatant Sony shilling so⊠acceptable? Like, itâs a good game but is that it? I have my suspicions but I thought Iâd post it here.
From what I gather thatâs pretty much it.
That and it sounds like itâs rife with references to more creative/experimental times in Sonyâs past, so itâs a lot of âah damn I remember thatâŠwhen Playstation was goodâŠâ
I think in comparison to something like Funko Fusion or whatever it is probably that it is a fairly competent game with a lot of variety and not just banking off of brand familiarity in lieu of a core game. The references they make are pretty well-crafted but itâs hard to unzip the gaming nostalgia/shillery from living under capitalism more generally. If I must live under the foot of the corporation it is at least nice to remember when they made some good things, even accidentally. I think itâs also Astro Botâs weakness. Itâd be a good game without all the references but would anyone care as much? The gamerâs koan.
I remembering seeing this image of Romero at a gas museum pop up and for years people saying how sad it was a videogame rockstar like Romero couldnât hack it in the industry anymore and took up a job at a gas station
Considering Ratchet and Clankâs mediocre sales, no.
