Today I learned the first text-based online role-playing game, MUD1, was at one point renamed to British Legends. I unfortunately can’t find any old marketing material with a logo or anything like that, but their website does have the this sobering banner gif in its footer:
A year or so period working in the east side area across the lake from Seattle where I could escape on actual lunch breaks to a park that was basically a sizeable remnant of an old forest tucked back in a nearby suburban residential neighborhood and I would take this long wide path down toward a stream and a little disused branch off it around the bend of the hill to sit on a huge rotting tree trunk and play games on GBA for 40 minutes or so surrounded by ferns and gigantic pines.
