I was sour on GameSpy once upon a time (read: the mid-00s) but least there’s an open-source implementation that has allowed older multiplayer games (like UT99) to stay online even after their parent companies have pulled the plug. Wish every game would open-source their master server after the developer shuts down.
happy leap day
the fictional cartridge-based console that’s powerful enough to host cps2 ports from ken’s ending in x-men vs street fighter
It seems everything I could think of from the early 3D era that would be obvious to re-release has finally been re-released except for the PS1 and PS2 Resident Evil games. What makes them so exceptional that Capcom would rather just remake them entirely, while shitting out companion free game trash like Resistance and Re:Verse? I wonder if they don’t appreciate fixed-camera perspective or low-poly graphics, or they do appreciate those and understand that most people will scan those things as “primitive.” They all emulate excellently but I do think it would be cool to see ports of them on modern platforms.
maybe it’s cause prerendered backgrounds particularly look like shit upscaled and they’d be too cowardly to put crt shaders in something that’s not all 2d pixel art. replaying shadow hearts 1 in pcsx2 is what started me down the path of crt shaders
i also suspect that capcom (and square, and other users of the method) probably don’t have the original 3d scenes used to make the renders anymore, so the thing they would probably want to do (re-capturing them in hd) is impossible.
as well as the “do it again exactly the same, but not the 3d is realtime so you can move the camera” wish for old pre-rendered background games, i’d also love to see “do it again exactly the same, but the backgrounds are photos of real models instead of 3d renders”. but both of those are probably way beyond the desired budget for rereleases of old games
at some point someone’s going to try to recreate the old-school final fantasy backgrounds from scratch one way or another it might look great or it might look terrible only time will tell. i just have a Feeling
i know people generally dug the RE2make but i remember being a lil disappointed that it wasnt going the way of the REmake and doing an unabashed survival horror throwback with gorgeous new rendered backgrounds
like, It’s Dated I Get It but no i dont, fuck them kids
extra disappoinment at reduced monster diversity, including turning the plant monsters into a humanoid thing. re2 is a monster fest. gamecube remake made re1 into MORE of a monster fest than it already was. are these games so expensive they have to be more prudent with monsters? are technological advancements really worth this sacrifice?
There is not a single giant ineffectual spider in either re2 or re3 remake and it’s disgusting
We did get Code Veronica and Onimusha 1.
Forgot that these actually moved off the PS3 and have PS4 ports even. I’d love to play Outbreak with a friend of mine that only has a Playstation.
Finally registered JoyToKey ($7). The web site is half Japanese, half English. And I hadn’t realized before that the program is still getting regular updates.
Been watching a lot of movies including LA Plays Itself and seeing this bridge in multiple things and instantly recognizing it from Grand Theft Auto V.
Back when MGS4 was coming out, I dowloaded trailers a lot and I used to watch the original Raiden trailer a ton. I’m not sure when or why I started doing this but an ancient amv desire welled up inside me and I would play music over trailers when I watched them, though never actually made edits.
In this Raiden trailer no music plays during the scene where he fights Gekkos so I tried finding music that synced nicely. Of all things, The Traveling Wilburys’ Wilbury Twist fits the best, especially if you sync the track to play with the end of the fight (at least I think so). Kojima shoulda used it. Prepared timestamp for the track below if you wanna try it yourself.
Incidentally it doesn’t work as well for the cutscene in the actual game because music plays during the fight and it moves a bit quicker.
