videogame things you think about a lot lot lot

Things like sport, including the standard NATO color codes making sure the Reds will always be the enemy.

That Capcom/the people involved in the Resident Evil CGI movies decided to reuse Jill Valentine’s R3make model for Death Island despite the fact that the two stories are more than a decade and a half apart, meaning they were conveniently forced to come up with a canon reason why Jill conveniently doesn’t look forty. I know it’s perfectly on brand for Capcom, and that it’s not even the first time the series has done this bullshit, but dammit, it bugs more than the usual Japanese flavor of sexist ageism. That it’s Jill’s first post-RE5 appearance in forever (in part because Capcom considers women older than 35 to be worse than any zombie) in a film that’s ostensibly focused on her, just adds salt to the wound. You can design a hot 40-year-old Jill, Capcom! I believe in you!

And I was really liking the way they aged up Claire Redfield in Revelations 2. I bet they could make a really cool older woman if they weren’t like this.

If they made a Kirby’s Dream Course using the engine from Forgotten Land and included the big mouth mode stuff I would probably shid with joy, I’d even buy a new console for it if I had to

They called it Final Fantasy because square was going to go under if it didn’t make a profit then after the fifteenth game nearly destroyed the company they made a sequel to it.

This will be the sixteenth time we made a video game to destroy this company and we have become exceedingly efficient at it

in 2010 peace walker’s climax was total schlock but now i would completely believe a CIA station chief had made an ā€œAIā€ based on anecdotes about, idk, patton that presses the red button for them

Patton is an extremely funny Zenigata/Javert figure and is underused in speculative fiction imo

I still think there should be slashfic involving Patton’s ghost and Nixon

from 2013 to 2015 hideo kojima was personally cutting amvs of his games for trade shows

they’re assembled from cutscenes and b-roll from vertical slices cut to a pop song which produces the awkward amv cut-choice effect of filling time to the beat against the original flow of the scene (now a publisher would get the terrible trailer dubstep remixed to the clips they have instead)

the gdc 2013 and e3 2014 trailers also have that most amv of traits: very literal lyric theming

When you built a shell, built an army in your mind
You can’t sit still and you don’t like hanging around the crowd
They don’t understand

We are not your kind of people
Speak a different language
We see through your lies
We are not your kind of people
Won’t be cast as demons
Creatures you despise

for a moment in the gdc/garbage trailer (around 2:08) i get a note of remedy’s pop music sensibility. that’s a beautiful slow-motion car crash

i’m like 95% sure that it’s lakitu, not toad

i learned the name lakitu (1) during a time that my brain uncritically retained all information (2) did not flag words with their language of origin. ā€œlakituā€ is stored alongside the names of family members and old pets. there was a time in which everything seemed salient just because it was happening. how much of aging is developing perceptual filters. should i have an acid phase.
