I did like the insinuation that society had broken down to such a degree that magic was becoming real again, and Max might have become immortal because he’s forgotten how to age.

can we all agree the final upgrade for your jacket in that game where hes in a plate carrier is so fucking ugly it’s almost criminal they make you play the game a second time to dress as mad max.

Dang, this madmax game sounds pretty good. Was it on PC too or was it PS4 exclusive?

Wikipedia says there was a Windows version. Also Linux and Mac ports a little later on.

Don’t be fooled though. There is a whole lot of melee combat, it’s most of what you do in the game, and it does suck. It’s just all the rest of it is cool. I love a conflicted half-game like that, but there’s no reason anyone else should necessarily.

Well I guess not all the rest of it, I mean the basic structure of the game is a lawnmower sim which is an uninspired and essentially enervating way to organize any game. I think it might be my favorite lawnmower sim though? I guess I never really thought of it that way. Still, it’s a backhanded compliment.

it rules if you’ve never played any of those weird batman games you won’t even notice the combat sucks cuz you haven’t experienced it in like ten other games. I like the combat a lot every time it slows down I go OOOOO I’M GONNA PUNCH YA SO HARD hahaha but it’s the only game I’ve played with melee combat like that

For a brief moment at the beginning of Mad Max you get a glimpse of a much more antagonistic game, where you are having to scav fuel and be kind of deliberate and underpowered. The game quickly does away with this but I always thought it was an interesting relic, like a missive from a different reality. I wrote about it once, a long time ago, for Unwinnable.

theres a mod that makes fuel matter, and another one where you actually have to eat and drink, so people are finally making progress on this after like ten years lol

oh yeah I just remembered the thing I don’t like. in order to use the dog and have the dog with you in the car (to find mines mechanically) you have to use the little dune buggy. let me use my custom killer car with a pooch in it to find mines! I want my dog with me!!

this is why I liked The Long Drive a lot, because it was all about scavenging fuel creatively.

I’m going to be thinking a lot about why Shigeru Miyamoto used the pseudonym ā€œMegadrive Segaā€ for the credits of Mother 2.

i was so obsessed with street fighter alpha 3 when i was like 12-14 that it’s still the default fighting game in my mind, and i think of other fighting games in terms of the ways i which they differ from street fighter alpha 3
