Can also confirm that the credits have a terminal code for what is essentially a god-mode version of the game! Fun way to celebrate beating it by going on a victory lap with juiced up abilities and mercilessly murdering all lawmen
Wasn’t initially planning on returning to it in order to try and beat all the other requirements for levels (for fear of exhausting it of all its joy) but there’s at least one later level where I’m not even sure how you’d beat it without killing some lawmen, so that’s piqued my curiosity to go back a little!
Also feels like a missed opportunity that this doesn’t have a level editor. Already picturing all the possibilities in my head of what sort of crazy things people could cook up! The cow in particular feels like a late-game addition that could have been pushed a lot further for maximum chaos/comedy…
Also revisited Campanella 1 and 2 because I really love that dinky ufo and want to love the games themselves more. Tried it with the keyboard like others have been suggesting but found that led to some hand-cramping still. Then I tried switching the thrust to the trigger as well as using the analog stick for movement. That actually seemed to help some and led to me getting a lot further in both games!
Kinda understanding the trade-off, in the first game, between going for 1UPs versus getting through the level unscathed but still not sure if it’s 100% my cup of tea coffee… While I get narrowly avoiding obstacles is sorta the whole point, I can’t help but long for my ufo to be freed of any cramped space or fuel limitations just so I can have a good time floating around in the colourful videogame void unrestricted instead
Also can’t quite get past the sluggishness of the side-scrolling sections in 2 and how forgettable each of them can feel from one another. I think the structure overall is kinda interesting but I’m not sure the actual content of it does much for me… at least not to repeat endless variations of it each time I die and restart. We’ll see though because I really love the tiny ufo!! It makes sense why this is their Mario, just from a mascot appeal perspective…
EDIT: also, anyone happen to know who led the design of Rail Heist? It’s credited to KC Levin which is the seventh pseudonym I’ve seen so far. There’s only really six developers mentioned in the intro so I’m left scratching my head
I beat that one by resetting until the bad matchups for my character were in the first 3 matches instead of the last 2 (when the AI gets too consistent). Yeah.
It depends on whether you happened to pick the good party members or not in the saloon. If you have all the strong ones, it’s not too grindy except a bit in the first hour.
Three of the blue disks were opened by accident
Also it’s reeeeeeal interesting how it sorts blue disks by some objective measure of progress, such that “Velgress (floor 47)” is sorted later than “Warptank (12%)” and “Cyber Owls (1 mission)”
