the only game ive played on this so far is the walrus 2 player butt hitting game thats apparently JUST LIKE VERSUS COLLECTION (cania and meauxdals knowledge, not mine) but i really like how much the physics feel like joust, especially the bounce off of things momentum
I wouldn’t say Block Koala is necessarily a complete wash… I thought stage 8 was pretty interesting in terms of different stuff you have to do to piece the whole thing together.
Of course, then I opened stage 9 and was like
Kick Club 2p speed runs are gonna be insane
finally played all 50 games, they are of varying quality and I think about half of them are annoying. Magic Garden is amazing, Kick Club is cool, Pingolf needs more levels and a level editor because it’s super good but too short. I find the whole package compelling, but my initial impression of across-the-board high quality was, I think, mostly about the novelty and quantity
The wealth of two player games is a gift though. this is a new party game classic imo. Permanent Steam Deck install.
I don’t think any of the music I’ve heard is Certified Banger level which is a shame, but it’s all good
Also a balm for my “sick of overwrought pixel art” ass
I’m going to try and finish ten games and get at least one more cherry. After that we’ll see.
Have to go back on what I said here a bit… Gave Seaside Drive another whirl and got to the last level before dying. I think the constant moving left and right to drift/charge your shots can feel a bit like murder on the thumb after a while, but otherwise this is a pretty fun (and short!!) arcade-style game! I found using the analog stick versus the d-pad managed to help the thumb-stress some…
Tbh I feel like UFO50 was built to be played on a keyboard with arrow keys for movement
the more of these I play the more I feel like the controller is holding me back. Just hurts my hands too much to mash the dpad so much
i played on an snes-style controller and that felt pretty ideal for me. but I also play smw romhacks so my hands are probably used to punishment
I played on keyboard for a bit and had an ok to bad time. Im playing it on my PS4 Hori mini and its been pretty ok.
Has any one golded or cherried the party planning game? I’m having the toughest time with it but steadily coming up with ways to beat each challenge. I felt suddenly astonished when I realized I had been tricked into enjoying a deck building game. You could absolutely play this with a deck of cards and some little tokens and counters.
I haven’t played the house party game in a bit but I think I golded it
What makes it a good deckbuilder is that it isn’t a roguelite, it is just a board game in digital format
The interesting twist it has is that it forgoes having a hand, instead everything is just top decked. This adds some randomness, especially in early hands, but because of the specific mix of abilities in the game, it doesn’t feel too punishing.
for days now ive had a powerful thirst that cannot be slaked: i need someone hyper to contend against
who will be my Donkus
I feel like my optimal controller for this is one of those super flat hitboxes that fit in a jnco pocket
Yeah, there aren’t really any Mega Man-style chiptune bangers. But when it wants to be quirky or atmospheric instead it’s truly excellent. In particular, Mooncat, Campanella 2, Devilition and Divers.
Mentioning Divers might be a surprising because much of that game has no music, but that’s why it’s so good. In battles the music is slow and muted compared to the average RPG battle theme, but starting from silence it sounds intense. And when I reached the deepest zone and suddenly heard music, I was like “oh shit it’s on now”
oh wow this is right on the mark lol
i spent like half an hour on it today and it’s such a grody little thing. i love it.
i love how you start with no items (not even a weapon) and so little health that some enemies can one-shot you (immediately re-rolling your seed). i love how the inventory system runs by Dizzy rules, so that you have to drop an item in place if your two slots are full. i love how it randomizes which aliens are friendly or unfriendly every time. i love the fake scrolling glitches along the edges. i really love the gun that can rebound and turn yourself into a little animal.
i imagine that all the weird enemy/item/world behaviors would be fun to learn
but
i’m not that interested figuring out its resource economy atm (4 kinds of rupees is too many for my brain to process rn)
the farthest i got in a seed was collecting 1 out of 3 of the macguffins, before deciding to turn the game off and do something else.
To me Planet Zoldath came across as an ambitious passion project that crashlanded due to technical limitations (and also not knowing how to animate a non-constipated walk cycle)
Like, the alien dialogue extremely briefly alludes to their religion and civilization: that’s all that made it in from a design book with pages of lore
lmao i suck at all these games
ive gotten gold cartridges on Magic Garden, the bird/dino strategy game, the little ufo racing game, and moon cat. So that’s 4/10 planned. I have a cherry on the ufo racing game also.
my plan is to get a cherry on Magic Garden, fulfilling my “two cherries” goal. I actually beat the score requirement before getting gold, but I didn’t finish the game with the high score. Honestly it’s only gonna take a minor shift in strategy to get it done.
I’m planning on getting gold for Pilot Quest, Kick Club, Porgy and Pingolf. So I have to decide what other 2 games I’m going to finish.
I really like Rakshasa but it’s evil lol. I don’t care for the Campanella games at all, too hard and fiddly for me. I can’t figure out that golf RPG for shit, seems completely impossible. The tower defense caveman game sucks ass, but I think I could grind through it once I find The Strategy. I haven’t messed with the Diskonia game much at all, so that might be a good one.
Anyway still digging this game, and I’m glad I decided to only finish 1/5 of them. Seems about right.
