I’m glad they didn’t make us wait even longer for cooper to fully return because his certainty really does anchor the show, even in the ways he’s made to be obviously wrong, so much of twin peaks for me is still fully inhabiting the way kyle maclachlan sells that inner life

the whole idea of having this character who initially had this mythic presence because she was never portrayed alive and had a frankly improbable number of vices attributed to her have to then be subjected to all this horrible abuse half naked when the story was no longer being told on network TV was not great. it was objectively too porny for a story about trauma
and the cinematography at the end for the actual murder was just cheap after that

ok most of james’ scenes were also very grounded and haunting and it was difficult for me to remember after consuming the entire series in the space of a month that, wherever those are called back to, their core is in FWWM
that was maybe the only part of the film where I felt like I didn’t mind that I was being shown something I’d already been told about
Fire Walk With Me is one of the most uncompromising and realistic portrayals of a woman’s trauma and is probably the best film Lynch has made.
It’s also necessary just from how they botched handling leland “an evil spirit made me do it” palmer in the series

I am not clear on the extent to which they made up the Bob plot as they went along and I like that it seems like it could go either way, my main problem with FWWM is that having a narrative built like that does mean that maybe you’re not on firm enough ground for some subject matter
