I’ve seen the first two episodes now. So far it seems pretty decent, although I kinda liked Rings of Power despite its somewhat feeble writing, so I guess take my opinions with a grain of salt.
It seems stuck in what I feel is like a decade old normie misconception that video games are just entirely COD and nothing else, and they casually drop Bartle’s taxonomy of player types into a conversation like it’s just something the average gamer would use to describe a game, which I found kinda funny.
It also basically just gives away the main sci-fi hook in the first few minutes, which kinda takes away the impact of the reveal. I remember when the book finally reveals what’s going on with the two separate storylines it felt like a twist on par with the Matrix. I’m guessing they need to get people into the concept sooner because 3 or 4 episodes of leading up would probably cause them to switch off.
Feel asleep before I got to the third episode, but seemed p decent to me (someone who isn’t really into Guillermo)! Probably a side effect of being real high, but that second ep felt like a dark souls level. Just roll away from the scary monster! Those I-frames, dude
this show is the equivalent of a 2000s acoustic cover of an 80s pop ballad. I gave it a second episode after the baseball game ended and I regret it. cannot fathom its audience
I really can’t recommend it! the graphic violence feels just as out of place as everything else about it, and black is probably my favorite kamen rider! I don’t get it at all
Watched the first two episodes of Sopranos tonight. Really making the most of that HBO Max subscription. I have blessedly managed to avoid decades worth of Sopranos Discourse and so the only vague ethers I’ve picked up about it via osmosis by hanging around Critical Media Spaces is something something it’s about American decline and the characters aren’t supposed to be cool you doofuses, pretty much the same thing you hear about like Scorcese gangster pictures. And having watched the first two episodes, it’s like: how could any person watch these as unironic Cool Mob Guy power fantasies? It’s so signposted as being about American decline, like they damn near turn to the camera and say “this show is about American decline”, I guess as the first prestige TV show they had to get X-Files watchers used to novelistic themes and et cetera. Anyway it’s very funny and I like it.
I remember when The Sopranos first came out the ads really played up the angle of him having a therapist and so for years I dismissed it as “Serious gritty Analyze This reboot” and I ultimately am not sure I misjudged it
Edit: OK Sopranos actually started a few months before that movie came out so I must have misremembered the relationship. But spiritually I’m still right
this show makes me “that’s Chappie” way too much. so many musical stings from the original series, my wife does not care for these needless interruptions
daphny and i are rewatching house again cuz we quit at season 3 like a billion years ago because the cop trying to ruin house plotline is SO annoying especially after the rich guy already tried to do that. we just skipped ahead and season 4 was full on fan fiction bullshit (the wilson/house/amber omegaverse polycule is disgusting) but it did mean that we got to see fred durst play Friendly Bartender for 2 episodes and house got a traumatic brain injury so he stopped being racist temporarily
