turning 360 degrees and walking away: the xbox thread

the 360 D-pad had that terrible circular dais it was set onto making it into a bad 8-way pad, get that shit outta here gimme those 4 perfect cardinal directions. Fightgamers would sand down the quadrants to make the thing into a passable fightstick

Just in case you didn’t know.

I wonder if it would be possible to track down who coined calling it “The Duke”.

oh SHIT YES its even got translucent colored plastic!!

i also want to know who is The Duke

Lost Odyssey is probably the best Xbox 360 game that was never ported to PC and is still worth playing today imho. It’s the real Final Fantasy XIII. All the short stories it comes with are good even though it feels like the Kaim in the stories and the Kaim in the actual game are 2 completely different people. Usually I really struggle to remember wtf even happened in a JRPG when it’s over but this one has a pretty clear through line.

When Xbox did that whole Xbox20 thing a few years ago it said Lost Odyssey was the game I played the most on the 360, so there you go. I guess 2 playthru’s of a 4 disc JRPG will do that.

I’ve been accidentally doing this for about 15 years or however long mostly because I find the Gears aesthetic so abhorrent. I’ll probably play Gears eventually. Maybe.

I was going through old photos and I found a photo of my first A/V setup in my first apartment. Good for playing CDs through the stereo too. I can tell that’s blue dragon onscreen and the controller is a hori gem pad I think.

I have always been tempted to read Btooom (knowing absolutely nothing about it, not endorsing it) because of the xbox-360-otaku pandering cover on the first volume. Then I see some of the other covers and remember that’s not necessarily a good subculture to be aligned with at all. I do like junya inoue’s work on cave games though

One week y’all or lose the chance to own DARK.

https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-us/product/dark/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b5907e6

It looks like it was made for a TV Show.

As we near the end I’ll collect my harrowing saga of trying to buy things on 360. The 360 Store wouldn’t accept my credit card. So I had to go on the US Microsoft website with a VPN and buy some credit. This let me buy stuff on the 360 but not download it. Because most of the downloads are IP Checked.

I knew this because I’ve previously taken a 360 to America just to download Nuts and Bolts and theGhostbusters game I bought on some sale for a buck each. I downloaded it with Hotel wifi overnight.

Oh another thing. The 360 Elite S doesn’t recognize my router. So had to dig out a LAN Cable. So i had to tunnel the 360 through my laptop through a VPN to slowly (talking 2MBs a second) download whatever garbage I bought and found demos for.

I have this stupid frankenstein 360 that is a American 360 S with no harddrive but then found a 360 harddrive in a junk pile here which is marked as ăƒăƒŒăƒ‰ăƒ‰ăƒ©ă‚€ăƒ– in the OS. Who knows what problems that is causing.

With all this taken care I turned off the VPN decided moving the 360 wasn’t worth it and started downloading stuff from the JP store. Then noticed all the Cave shooters are on the store. Woah! And Ninja Blade! Sick. Don’t need to spend that money but Ninja Blade is real tempting.

Something to note is a few of the XBLA games have a secondary download in the shop that is necessary to even launch the game. Be careful!

Next was putting my 20 or so disc games in and checking for updates and dlc and such. It was a hassle to put it in hover over the icon then hit X. Mushihimesama Futari’s Black Label DLC is on the Us store for some reason??

Speaking of Mushihimesama Futari I got that on Disc form over here. It was the one game that didn’t load. I couldn’t figure out why. I toothpaste cleaned, which was my first time doing that in desperation. I tried to buy an Xbox point card on Amazon Japan and couldn’t. So then asked Lady Rude who could (who knows why.) i couldn’t add it to my account on 360, again. Log on to the website. Cannot find the link in Japanese to redeem a point card. Had to copy the link from the American site and hope it worked. It did. Points were now on my account. Time to get Futari. Which was the one game in this enterprise I was like “want to play this.”

Get an error code when I try to check out. They are maybe closing this store because it is broken. I got the money in the account I have to fix this. I go back to the account website on my Pc and add an address just like I had just done on 360. This works. I get Futari. I have 300 yen left. I spend about 30 seconds trying to find what is for sale (there is no way to check what is for sale on the console I was trying to rely on Japanese websites!) i consider the 300 yen lost.

Then I logged into the Microsoft account and deleted everything personal about the account.

And an additional final thing I found out my main account has been trying to be forced open by China/Brazil/Uruguay/Portugal on regular basis by failed log-ins.

Here is what I ended up foolishly buying

Bionic Commando Wife Arm
Lost Planet 1
Alien Hominid

In short Xenia works great and would work better if somehow archive downloads weren’t slower than what I just spent two days doing.

Is there a way to not have the colors all washed out on the 360? I may have to start trying backwards compatibility on my xbone

Important video going over all the free content to download.
