Great but I’m also super mad about the rush I felt when my eyes glanced over Sakura Wars 2

this came out a few months ago without us noticing!

i’m really liking how the ps1 is becoming the new nes, in terms of it being the main system people seem to be translating games for. there’s a ton of interestinglooking jp-only rpgs and other language-dependent games on there

I love this so much.

Tetris - Rosy Retrospection is my portable Tetris these days.
It let’s me play modern Tetris with the Game Boy aesthetic.

The main mode is fantastic, but it also really notably changes the heart levels: Heart levels with lock delay are way more approachable.

The person that just translated Dr. Slump is moving fast on what I consider one of the psx’s white whales:

The hard part of this translation isn’t going to be translating the words, it’s going to be translating the ‘tude

Updated and available on ROMHacking now.

ETA:

This hack seems interesting, but items respawning in the mountain wasn’t a bug/exploit, so I don’t know why it needed to be “fixed”. You can only hold one item at a time (no rucksack in this game), and the amount of time it takes to run from the mountain back to your shipping bin makes abusing this not particularly feasible (you can pretty much just make enough to buy some seeds, which seems to be what the developers were going for, otherwise, they wouldn’t have had items respawn in the mountain in the final version). And since this hack also forces you to bed at midnight, you have even less time to do anything. If this hack had jammed in a rucksack/inventory system, then I could understand it, but otherwise, these two modifications just seem like something they did just so they could add it to the list of things they changed. :man_shrugging: Otherwise, hack seems like it might be worth checking out.

(I never encountered any major bugs any of the dozens of times I’ve played HMSNES, so I don’t know what people are talking about, how bugs make it “unplayable today”, but the vanilla game is perfectly playable).

The shop owner looks highly suspicious.

I was wondering if Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC) rom has ever been hacked to restore the good quality soundtrack

Yeah, that’d be cool. But, If I recall correctly, on Dreamcast, most of the tracks are sequenced (like MIDI) whereas I think GameCube they’re mostly streaming audio (think of like, WAV or MP3) that’s heavily compressed, so a patch would probably involve converting all of the sequenced Dreamcast tracks (or DSFs) to whatever audio format the GameCube version uses but with considerably less compression and then shoving all of that into the game (probably would be a big patch).

I almost forgot how many inferior, late ports of dreamcast games there were to PS2/GC

you can have:

  • crazy taxi with no texture memory

  • mvc2 with input latency

  • skies of arcadia with bad audio

  • sonic adventure with a bunch of weird cruft rearranged

  • soul calibur with zelda in it

  • phantasy star online that’s barely online

  • rez with a vibrator (this one is OK)

Like Grandia 2 on the PS2, with its massive amounts of slowdown. I stopped playing it shortly after renting it for that reason.
