The Official "Is Something Broken?" Thread

Only the second one for me.

Oh, interesting, that helps narrow it down.

@Brooks @OneSecondBefore the same for you?

For me the issue is just that all thread titles are displaying in white, even ones that I’m caught up with. Unread post counts for tracked threads are working normally.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

that might actually be a widespread bug that no one’s noticed then, I assumed it was the unread post counts breaking which was much more confusing (and is how I track personally)

This, both when I first visit and after I read the topic.

I totally misunderstood too, yeah.

oh yeah the gray-text thing broke for me like 2 days ago but i didn’t want to dilute the conversation with my new issue. turns out it’s the same issue

this whole time i thought the grey text was a client-side behaviour, like how links used to go red when you clicked on them in the olden days

Here are some screenshots of the issue to help clarify.

On mobile, threads are displaying as they should, with threads I’ve read all of in grey:

But on desktop, those threads that should be greyed out are all in white, making it difficult to tell what I’ve read and what I haven’t read:

I am experiencing the same issue that OSB described. Using Chrome on Windows/Android.

it’s the no-grey-text-on-thread-list-page for me also, yup
thrilled to be in great company as ever

I think the issue is actually universal, that’s just not how I browse the forums so I didn’t notice. I mostly browse from the Unread lists.

yeah, I strongly suspect this is a universal change that occurred at some point and is affecting some people here’s preferences but will be very very hard to do much about either upstream or locally

sorry folks

Ohhhhhhhhhh. I’ve never paid attention to the colors before, but y’all are right: I was just in this thread, but when I bring up the site, it’s unvisited the way you’re describing. I’ve always just gone by the “new posts since last visit” numbers.

Ironically it works fine on my phone

So do I have a toggle switched off or something because those new posts numbers don’t display for me

There are two parts to how this works for me.

Feeling very much like the layout of my supermarket has been changed around, but it is what it is

Dang, this really messes up the way I view the forums. I suppose I’ll try the “track every thread” method, I think I can make that work.

sorry!! I honestly don’t even want to think about the way this software internally chooses whether to display a URL as viewed or not, it is going to be extremely challenging to override, any rails devs we have here can feel free to correct me but I don’t think it’ll be supported by either the plugin system or the CSS overrides
