The Comic Book: The TV Show: The Thread

It’d be some shit if the X-Men relaunch somehow turned out better than the new Timm Batman.

I’m sold on the character designs.

I suppose after a few minutes I’ll get used to the ears

I could see Bruce Timm pitching the 1939 costume with the big ears for the original series back when, as leverage to “settle in the middle” at blue and grey instead of Tim Burton style black.

I like Bruce Timm and I like TAS but as an adult it’s hard to get excited about something where the entire raison d’etre just seems to be “What if TAS didn’t have to deal with Fox’s standards and practices department. What if it looked and felt exactly like TAS but now Two-Face was more gruesome and he set people on fire. Whoa.”

It looks like every one of their cheap DTV animated movies, not promising.

really bad idea to put footage from “the craft” into the credits of agatha all along like i’m trying to watch mcu slop here don’t remind me of actual entertainment

That first episode of The Penguin was pretty good! Picks up right where the movie ended and follows the first couple days in Penguin’s life and follows all the moves he makes to position himself to be more than a bit player in the underworld. Good setup episode and I’m looking forward to seeing the show develops.

February 6th.

the keyframes here are so much better than the actual show…

This humor feels so much more puerile than the comic. The comic had gags, but they were gags, not… this. I mean Chibi animation? WTF.

agatha all along was already kind of ahead of a lot of the mcu stuff by virtue of basics like “being low budget episodic television instead of a bad 8 hour movie” and “having characters with interpersonal dynamics at all”. but today’s episode was actually just straight up actually great genre tv. got the “damn that was a good buffy or star trek episode” feeling. if they can stick the landing i will give the show a qualified “shame it’s attached to wandavision” b+.

genuinely astonished by the early scene of kathryn hanh grabbing the blade of aubrey plaza’s knife, then plaza licks the blood off hanh’s palm?? eating crow after rolling my eyes at the “gayest ever” press, i mean, the bar was on the floor but

i wonder if they had to run the jade egg jokes up the chain in case they ever want paltrow back

they stuck the landing. unfortunately it is a “good tv show” but luckily there is enough wandavision stuff that i don’t have to actually recommend it to anyone

even the usual marvel dragonball laser hands finale fight is like 5 seconds long and mostly offscreen like “you know the drill” lol

the finale of superman and lois was perhaps the biggest piece of sappy family schlock ever shown on the cw like maybe even more than seventh heaven or something. absolutely incredible 20 minute flash forward to the next 30 years of superman’s life and death and going to heaven narrated by clark and his bountiful future life with all of his grandkids which felt like some kind of insane quiverfull/lds propaganda felt like some kind of adult contemporary asmr dont know if i’ve even seen a hallmark movie go to this level goddamn

Does superman meet God? Is Christianity confirmed canon to the dcu

sadly no. christianity is not necessarily real in superman and lois specifically, but in it’s non contiguous predecessor the arrowverse, i would say christianity is “basically” true: all the constantine and spectre hell/religion stuff is just real. they can travel to the real heaven to get people’s souls back. the force implied to be god actively stops time travelers from messing with the crucifixion. the global flood of noah was real but it was done by an alien (who also killed the dinosaurs and did pompeii) also they crossed over with lucifer where of course all of it is EXTRA real.
