watching prestige tv was also a running thing on supergirl. it was very weird to see these characters who functionally live in power rangers or a cartoon watching the wire

werewolf by night is great! it’s like episode of a theoretical marvel comics hbo anthology show from the 90s. the production design and special effects are tons of fun. never knew michael giacchino had a little tim burton in him. i cannot believe i like an mcu thing this much

She Hulk ended with her breaking out of the Disney+ interface to go into the marvel behind the scenes show and break into the writers room to complain about how her ending is just following the MCU formula and needs lower stakes and she then goes to argue her case to a robotic Kevin Feige proxy while complaining about Marvel in general and the show was not good enough to earn that but I do appreciate what a She Hulk comics move it was. A self indulgent fever dream of an episode which is one of my favorite kinds of episodes.
All that said, the entire plot of the show and it’s marketing hinging on taking like the meta conversation around female reboots and acting like enjoying a product is some sort of meaningful political move or something is incredibly wack like if Ghostbusters 2016 was about the social media conversation about Ghostbusters 2016. There is probably a way to do that but these people are not talented enough to do it and hanging a lampshade on that is not really much of anything. Also they hired a lot of talented people for an ensemble workplace comedy and did not have any scenes with the characters in meetings or bouncing off each other or which is it’s greatest sin.

someone has to do like Marx and write “Critique of the CW Ideology” (critiquing the family unit, relationship of deep state organizations to morality, ethics in xenodiplomacy, the role of the worker vis-a-vis the boss, found family as “your work friends and also your boss,” etc)

It’s kind of wild how closely Sandman follows the structure of the comic. The first half of that is the literal issue that falls at that point in the sequence, but since that particular issue is kind of brisk they padded it out by jumping five or so issues ahead to something thematically related.
So far it feels like half the most direct comic adaption ever, and half a second draft that gets to nail down the pacing a bit more.
The other big change is that a lot of the DC trappings are gone. Are people bugging out about Dr. Destiny, Martian Manhunter, Mr. Miracle, and Scarecrow getting jettisoned? I wasn’t really expecting any of that to be included and was even surprised that the House of Mystery/Secrets stuff was still intact. I wonder if we’ll eventually get Prez the Teen President.
so im on flash s3 and supergirl s2, having previously watched into arrow s2 and never having touched legends of tomorrow… assuming i’m like medium entertained by supergirl and low on flash rn, how much is it actually worth getting into this rabbithole
like im so sick of barry/iris im sick of time travel so we can redo the same conflicts over and over, i like that supergirl has a sense of humor, i completely lost track of the tenor of arrow by the time i dropped off watching that one, kind of want to understand the crossover stuff but not sure if that matters at all

ymmv but i would say that the sweet spot of the arrowverse is legends of tomorrow after season 1 until you get tired of it. it is exactly aware of how cheap and goofy it is. at it’s best it grows into having the tone of one of the old action pack shows from the 90s like xena or brisco county jr.
of course like all this stuff, characters and plots from arrow, flash, supergirl, black lightning, batwoman, constantine etc show up but you know, whatever.

this supergirl season 2-3 lead poisoning storyline is so stupid. there is no safe level of lead in the human body!!! it accumulates and doesn’t degrade!! this whole line about “it evaporates when touching humans” is so insulting of viewers intelligence lol

lol i don’t even watch secret invasion but from what i hear
they finally had sam jackson and don cheadle onscreen together for the first time talking about what it’s like to be black dudes in superhero world and they threw all the emotional weight of that conversation away to make cheadle have been a super skrull the whole time lol
