I enjoyed each of the three seasons, but they are all each sorta their own thing? Like the characters carry over, but the tone changes. The tone of the show changes sometimes halfway through an episode though, so. Brandon Fraser’s voice acting makes me laugh a lot, so that helps.

i really still feel like this was what made the initial mcu stuff good, in that the people who were making those movies kind of understood that you need to reintroduce/reinvent the character in a way that made sense as a movie. instead of it just being like, “well, here’s batman. you mother fuckers like batman, right? here’s all the stuff you know has to happen in batman. you’re welcome.”
this also meant that, like for gotg especially, they were free to break away from the typical super hero origin story standard plot arc, and just insert those characters into familiar genre frameworks that everybody already knows work well for movies. (the weird secret is this is also why The Dark Knight is a good movie, because it’s basically like a late 80s-early 90s joel silver / jerry bruckheimer esque thing that just happens to have batman in it. william fichtner’s presence in the movie gives this away)
but somewhere along the line they’ve just gone kind of mad with power, and now it seems like they’re doing exactly the opposite? like instead of taking sort of marginally familiar but basically blank slate characters and figuring out what genre would be a suitable thing to just like plop them down into, they’re taking these incredibly obscure characters with really specific background stories and using them to just make the blandest, most green lantern (2011)-ish stuff they can

gotta admit i am charmed by james gunn forcing in the goofiest silver age characters into the grimdark DCEU canon. like polka dot man in the suicide squad was the best, but the peacemaker show throwing out bat-mite, doll man, and matter eater lad as guys who are just around in the same world as zack snyder movies is very cute

I wonder if the Alan Tyduk version of the opening to Peacemaer has leaked anywhere, since I’ve heard that his wife was the choreographer and used him in the videos sent to James Gunn of how the dance sequence was supposed to flow

I find it hilarious that people were wigging out online because the dialogue is fake.
peacemaker is the best superhero show since amazon’s the tick and honestly one of the best and funniest shows on at all right now. it’s really coming together in a very satisfying way. i am gobsmacked at how well james gunn continues to absolutely thrive within these superhero cinematic universes that i am not invested in

I’m astonished at how specific and biting Peacemaker’s depiction of law enforcement ends up. “Lone shooter” as a verb, the detective getting a warrant from her uncle, totally compromised on every level.
In the same show where John Cena says he suspects he’s a “butt baby.”
The captions call the klansmen e.g. “white hood wanker” lol

I feel like in a weird way this show is like the pinnacle of James Gunn’s career – going to the lower stakes of TV after making it big, and being provided HBO money and basically garbage IP to play with has been the best possible showcase of his strengths

We’re the troma movies good?
He really only had a significant part in Tromeo and Juliet and… it’s fine? for what it is.
Tromeo is OK, but very 90s edgy as I recall, though the last time I watched it was on VHS, as an indicator of how long it’s been.
After Troma, Slither was pretty amusing, though watching it again will never rival the first time I saw it, in a theater, and someone brought their like 7 year old kid, and at a part with an obvious monster, the kid just started yelling “shoot him! Shoot! Him! What is wrong? Shoot him!” That kid ruled.
