yeah, I don’t use the app (movies / TV are the one category of media that I steal 1000% of the time, it’s exclusively easier), it’s more that they’re the one “publisher” who infamously has not adopted 4K by default even though all their internal studios must have updated their mastering pipelines by now (back in ~2017 this was a lot more hit and miss across the industry), and it bugs me for the same reason the most old-money parts of Boston having the worst trains used to bug me: it’s preposterously new england to think of it this way but it calls to mind this trust fund shantytown mindset where because they’re the oldest and classiest premium network they can neglect infrastructure improvements as long as possible. and, of course, no one can steal something that’s never released in the first place.
It couldn’t possibly be because they’re owned by an ISP… could it?

even though the actual plots of the MCU movies tend to owe more to stuff either before or after, i really feel like the ridiculous popularity of marvel comics in the early 90s planted a kind of generational time bomb that is responsible for a lot of what’s going on today. it’s weird thinking about how much media landscape real estate marvel took up back then even without any live action movies.

moon knight seems weird to me because he feels like the type of character no one would have cared about until an unusually charismatic marvel vs capcom appearance, but afaik that never happened? and yet still we care about moon knight?
He appeared in what is arguably the next most important Marvel video game property: Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Jeff Lemire wrote a pretty good reboot of the character back in 2016 that made people interested in the character.
Otherwise, he’s magic mental illness batman and most of the 90s runs leaned into extreme edgelord rape and murder right-wing crime fic shit.

The MCU decides what characters people are supposed to care about now. By being a character in one of these things the character is given import. I mean there are obvious cases like Guardians of the Galaxy or but the popularity of the MCU means that to a degree the comics are seen as sort of scriptures that the shows are interpreting for the first time. There are dozens upons dozens of videos of otherwise normal people from all walks of life truly thrilled to have their Wandavision theory confirmed that Agnes was really Agatha Harkness, a character that literally the only way 90% of these people ever heard about was watching theory videos or reading a listicle. There are millions of people right now checking out primers and cliff notes for Moon Knight. This is what the planet earth is now.
