The second episode of this was quite bad animation wise. The writing was a little better as they weren’t trying to fit an entire movie plot into 30 minutes, but still seemed kind of rushed. It does have Howard the Duck in it though
it’s very funny how cartoon djimon hounsou had more characterization in 30 mins than in two entire movies

yeah! it’s crazy how many roles that guy has been wasted in. he also plays two (unrelated) characters in DC movies that are just as forgettable.

He was in both Amistad and Gladiator back in the day and he’s clearly made of Oscar gold. He must have pissed off the wrong people so now you only ever see him as the bad guy in a Fast and Furious or whatever.
gotta hand it to what if, the doctor strange stuff is maybe the best wizard fight i’ve seen on american tv except like Legion or something. truly an episode worth watching for the animation alone

that’s good to hear, bc after being pretty enthused about the potential of that side of the show after the first episode i’ve been really let down by the other two. i keep forgetting this show exists in between episode releases which is not a great sign…

the trailer has very big shane black with the serial numbers filed off vibes which could be either good or bad i guess
i have been pretty impressed so far with how all of the marvel disney+ shows are so different from one another, but do that without sacrificing that MCU sheen of blandness. it’s kind of remarkable actually

Did they address Hawkeye being deaf in the movies previously? I don’t think I paid any attention to anything involving him in the couple ones I’ve seen.
the real villain is gravity. girl Hawkeye must stop Jeremy Renner’s face from falling off entirely
that little bit in black panther where killmonger kills his girlfriend for no reason just so you know he’s a bad guy even though he’s 100% correct is goofy and the what if killmonger saved tony stark episode doesn’t really have that anymore. he’s literally just murdering people within the military industrial complex so the best little scold they can give him is that hmm power is pretty corrupty buddy you’re not very nice lol

yeah i don’t know why but i was expecting it to go the other direction, and show that killmonger isn’t really such a bad guy he’s just been getting screwed over long enough to go full edgelord. instead it seems kind of like… uh… the opposite. really frustrating.

“what if?” is so weird. the whole concept of making a twilight zone show where all the heroes have to make a superteam in the end is…well there is an interesting way to do that and even marvel comics have done it before but the “Guardians of the Multiverse” from a pure character dynamics is just a zero. the individual characters were all more interesting and alive in their own stories and there is nothing regarding powers or personality that makes them entertaining to watch as a group. i can’t believe i am longing for the basic meat and potatoes character dynamics of the fuckin avengers movie. did i miss an episode or did they pull that version of gamora out of nowhere? the obligatory dragonball fight is better than the ones they have in live action i will give them that but for a show called “what if”, they really they can’t do the basics of “what if this toy played with this toy”. anyway it’s the narrative equivalent of getting a good combo on level 300 of a match 3 phone game very distracting i liked it.

like they used captain carter but they could have just done a mostly straight adaptation of exiles and it would have been better. it even uses the mcu!
