i kinda feel this even though i wouldn’t call it really really bad, just relatively weak in comparison to their track record for the last 15 years
has From actually put out anything less than good-to-great since Ninja Blade in 2009? just an absurd streak of bangers they are on. britney voice i must confess, i still believe…
I think if Duskbloods had sunlight and blue skies (and not that trailer music), I’d be OK with it. It looks cheap AND dark though. Rat’s cute, I’ll give them that.
The DK take on open worlds seems good. Just let me punch stuff I don’t need to sneak around or craft things.
I totally rolled my eyes at the Fromsoft trailer music + Fromsoft trailer woman going like « The ashen duskborn of the eye covenant… subjugated by moonlight eternal » but I still kind of want to try it
this isn’t to say i’m not very curious to see more about it etc etc but i mean duskbloods is some kind of nightreinesque spinoff tier thing right. that’s not the way they’ve ever introduced the new big ones. i support them going through a budgety multiplayery experimental phase but that didn’t smell like no souls 8 to me
for a second after they kept showing different characters posing i thought it was going to fade to black and then cut to aggressive orchestral blaring and a side-on view and it be like some kind of fighting game
still kinda hope it’s some kind of deranged PvP thing
Is it bad that the thing that surprised me most from this presentation is that Randy Pitchford is not only still alive but is also styling himself like an oligarch from a super hero comic and broadcasting from his evil underground lair?
me, an informed, discerning middle age adult consumer: 80 dollars for videogame in 2025 too fuckin’ much, paid upgrades, weird stupid DRM, charging for basically a game manual, grumble grumble grumble
bit of a rant hidden so as not to annoy people genuinely enthusiastic
If it’s any consolation, from someone who used to be pretty into Nintendo, I try to remind myself that the things I like(d) about their games were largely the result of work and passion from individual developers who at one point were employed by them.
Nintendo as a business has always been and continues to be largely bullshit. It’s difficult not to conflate them being bullshit with videogames as a whole being bullshit, but I try to remind myself of the things that I actually enjoy about videogames as whole and try to keep an eye out for people who are similarly passionate about those areas to maintain some kind of hope for things now and in the future.
I’ve seen you post bits of personal game development here and there… I try to encourage myself to pursue my own interests with game development in opposition to these larger business ventures and patterns. This stuff won’t get better if we’re depending on businesses like Nintendo to make it better for us because, frankly, that is not in their actual interest. At the end of the day, they are a money-making machine like most other private enterprise and it is probably futile to think otherwise… Let’s not let them steal our own passions from us, it was never theirs in the first place…
Went into this thing kinda hopeful and came out of it thinking “hey how are those ASUS and Lenovo handhelds doing running Bazzite or Steam OS these days.”
Getting a refurbished Steam Deck last summer was maybe the best foolish move I could have made.
