Ok I’m a little bit shocked they launched with just this

This infographic of Nintendo launch titles explains why I usually wait a couple months (starting with the Gamecube).

I redid the “rygar test” docked and using the new pro controller. When using a wired usb connection, it felt laggy, but seemed ok when I switched to wireless. So as far as I can tell, input lag seems similar to switch when playing handheld or wireless. Hopefully someone does some real lag testing on this soon.

Oh man, the Switch 2 version upgrades you get for the Zelda games with the online expansion pack (lol) only work if your profile is associated with a Nintendo account, so the extra Tears of the Kingdom save file my wife was playing on isn’t eligible for the upgrade. Bummer.

Mario Kart: I love that fucking Para-Biddybug is a starting character and Yoshi isn’t.

Really random remixes in this one – I was delighted to hear a remix of the 10 second long level select song from Yoshi’s Island at one point. It’s unclear to me what causes one song to end and the other to begin. The boundaries between songs are as porous as the boundaries between courses, which are as porous as the boundaries between flagship characters and some crab you saw once.

I agree with Felix that this seems pretty thin for a console launch. I’m like, “is this all there is?” But I’m just getting started so maybe it’ll surprise me.

I was surprised at the complete lack of tutorials. Very un-Nintendo-like. Could this be a hallmark of a design shift for this console generation, or do they just assume every human on earth knows how to play Mario Kart by now? …That might be true, actually.

the open world is a total scam compared to like forza horizon, I’m honestly pretty impressed by the degree of it

like it’s a good new mario kart but it’s a really weak launch

the brief parts of this that are almost waverace make me feel like they should’ve made it a grab bag of every Nintendo racing game – throw in a proper f-zero and pilotwings bit too. oh well

I am the sicko who enjoys sitting down and hoovering up all the findables and puzzles and nonsense whenever Genshin adds a new chunk of map so free roam is actually perfect for me, to the point where I would start getting belligerent and claiming it’s the launch 3D Mario people are clamoring for

it is however bullshit that you can’t free roam your way into a race or meaningfully interact with the bots driving around

yeah at this point my feeling is that the hardware is fine actually (I would feel differently if they had broken compatibility with the now large ecosystem of 3rd party controllers but they didn’t) but the software is seriously missing a trick

which is strange!

they will probably patch it and add stuff for years during which time neither the hardware or software will get any cheaper so having early adopted will be a wash, but it feels very insubstantial for now. like “we have Mario Kart at home” stuff

I told literally all of you not to spend hundreds of dollars on this but does anyone ever listen to Cuba. No.

I Game Chat with a friend earlier and he plugged in a random webcam and it totally worked! I got to see his room through a postage stamp-sized screen (you can’t enlarge people’s webcam even though you can enlarge their gameplay screen). The mic sounded pretty good too despite the console not being anywhere close and under a table in my case. I’m impressed by it!

I played Mario Kart with the new Gamecube controller and it felt so right (reminder that I haven’t played a Mario Kart since the SNES one). I tried switching back to the joycons but nah, GC controller all the way. The only bad part of the GC controller is that it doesn’t have a Minus button so I can’t go into Photo Mode.

Can’t you just create a Nintendo account for her and tie it to that profile?

I’ve heard that a lot of them don’t work currently.

one of the first things I tried was plugging in a GP2040-based leverless and It Just Worked, so I’m confident that a lot of a controllers just need a FW update
