Switch 2 (part 1)

if your second system is also the $500 bundle I guess I will?

Nintendo’s EULA update now mandates arbitration instead of lawsuits for North American accounts.

  • The first wave of invitations will go out May 8.
  • If you do not receive an invitation at this time, you will remain in the invitation queue. Additional invitations will be sent periodically via email until all eligible registrants receive an opportunity to purchase.

also did not get an email. idk if they’re going off how long you’ve had a Nintendo account or how much you use your Switch, or both. if it’s the latter, i have unfortunately not turned on my Switch in like a year lol

Family friends have first dibs so whenever my mom decides to respond

The reservation is until Sunday so

You can send Nintendo a letter saying that you are a sovereign citizen and do submit to Admiraltry law

the requirements specifically for the NA NSO lottery were an NSO sub for the last 12 months and 50 hours of playtime

seeing as I got invited, the 50 hours was a cumulative thing and not “50 hours in the past year”, but required you to be sharing gameplay stats with Nintendo (if you posted a picture of how much/little you played your Switch every year, you were doing this)

do you mean this literally, as in, i had to actually share and post a screenshot of this somewhere? or just that, if i could have done this, then i was sharing.

because yeah, i easily have 50 hours of play time.

anyway, to be honest, i’m not sweating it. when i get the invite i’ll order it, or if an opportunity arises some time sooner, i’ll go with that. the way getting a console has become such a challenge in recent years has mostly made me disaffected.

It’s fundamentally hilarious to me how difficult console manufacturers make it for you to give them hundreds of dollars

Nintendo continuing their reign as the worst copyright bastards around in videogames…

Agreeing while also saying if you’re stupid enough to be using your hacked system online you probably deserve what’s coming to you

You say that like Microsoft and Sony don’t have a similar policy.

I was under the impression they block access to your online account, not brick your entire console…

Also, this is on top of all the other obsessive hounding Nintendo do with regards to piracy. Sony and Microsoft may be similar in some respects but neither of them are quite as intensely focused on this stuff as Nintendo…

Again, it’s the bricking of your whole console that feels like a step beyond here. Also like, I don’t really understand this whole attitude of “these people have it coming to them!” I think all of this piracy policing is a waste of everybody’s time and only serves to be punitive in a really grisly way…

I’d like to see if this is “Nintendo sees what you’re doing and is bricking your console” or “Nintendo has a system update and if you did some shit to your Switch and install it, they don’t guarantee it’ll work on the other end of the install”

personally, back when I cracked my Vita, I stayed offline or if I went online, I spoofed my firmware version until Sony stopped giving a shit. I don’t care if someone is pirating games but if you stick Nintendo’s nose in it, don’t act victimized if you get bopped (that one guy who did work on the Switch that Nintendo sued into the ground seems fine but maybe he’s a little stupid if he got caught, got the chance to walk away and decided the best course of action was to lie and keep doing it anyway)

I mean either one seems equally shit to me…

Yeah, sure. It’s arguably a foolish move but also like… it’s still shitty that the repercussions for such a decision is that the entire console is now completely non-functional… The likelihood that money was exchanged for that thing is still pretty high even if the person doing piracy got it through similarly “illicit” means… I would also say the likelihood is pretty high that most people doing piracy don’t have a tonne of money in the first place. Even if you view their actions as foolish, I still think it’s fair to label them a victim in this case.

You mean Gary Bowser (quite the name), as in the guy who is now in debt to Nintendo for the rest of his life and is struggling to make enough for rent, food and payments towards support for his physical disability? Yeah, I dunno… Even if he were so foolish, I still think it is fucked!!

They didn’t want to pass up a chance to shoot you in the face.

My big hope for this thing is that it keeps developers optimizing new games to accommodate the Switch 2’s (supposedly) PS4-tier guts…so I can play them on my Steam Deck instead :smiling_imp:

Yeah, I was assuming the latter, but the verb choice in the announcement gives credence to the former

You acknowledge that if you fail to comply with the foregoing restrictions Nintendo may render the Nintendo Account Services and/or the applicable Nintendo device permanently unusable in whole or in part

@Felix

alright, you still interested? would be 530 plus whatever shipping to you ends up landing

(I don’t actually know if Nintendo is forcing same shipping address and also I want a charging grip)

Yup let’s do it
