Switch 2 (part 1)

couldn’t stay up until midnight because i wake up at 5:30/6:00 am every weekday, so i tried Gamestop at 11

lol. site totally broke. tried for 20 mins, but nothing

i registered with Nintendo when they opened that, so maybe i’ll hear back from them in May. otherwise, oh well :person_shrugging:

everything I’m reading points to the easiest and most reliable way of getting a pre-order was lining up at your local Gamestop because everyone else tried doing only online

we’re in the bad place

The catch is that the local gamestop needs to survive until June 5th to fulfill it.

yeah, like

i’m not taking a day off of teaching my kids to go wait in line for a consumer good lol

that’s directed at these stores, not you. i don’t really understand their need to drive such insatiable desire in people that they couldn’t have made pre-orders happen on, idk, a day or time when most folks are able to actually engage in it. i would actually prefer to go in person, even. it’s not like there was any chance they wouldn’t sell out of these

honestly? it sounds like you could walk in before evening kicks in and still be able to get a console, if not the bundle

nah, tried the one in my neighborhood and could not

well if it’s any consolation you probably slept better than my dumb ass

Today’s “news post” in Nintendo’s Nintendo Today! app is a 3D render of the HDMI cable for the Switch 2 that you can rotate.

as a nintendo cable, I bet it’s full of whimsy and childlike wonder. can’t wait.

Hori is selling this. Looks cute and fun, right?

Wrong. It’s a 480p camera. Where did they even find a 480p camera sensor in 2025?

it’s ok, the human eye can’t see over 500p anyway

I look like shit on webcams so I see low resolution as a selling point

I regret to inform everyone I was able to actually procure two Switch 2s via Best Buy late last night via their random queues so now my partner and I will be Switch Twoing

Debating whether I should get the new Pro controller because the original Switch’s dpad was the worst dpad I ever used and I don’t want to get burned twice.

Apparently most of the retail games are just one time use for one account codes so Nintendo finally can kill used games.

Thought the whole point of Game Keys was that they could be sold/traded?? What a waste of plastic

I don’t know if this tilts you one way or the other because your issue is the dpad but the charging grip has the rear buttons like the pro controller and also it’s not eighty five dollars

so most of the games are key cards, which is better than a download code but worse than an actual cart because you can sell them so technically they have value

notably, all of the Xseed/Marvelous NA retail releases are 1. fully on cart 2. include the upgrade packs for no upcharge 3. whoops they revealed with the previous point that Switch 2 cards are backwards compatible with the original console 4. are seemingly the only fully physical versions worldwide (they already confirmed the NA retail release of Daemon X Machina is on cart)

i don’t think this is true. the game-key things are not tied to an account.

there’s an absolute shit-ton of mis-info going around about the switch 2, so i’m confused too, the US site says something different from the UK site, and it’s also vague… but everything from nintendo officially seems to indicate they are not tied to an account and just don’t contain the game data

Oh, I didn’t know that! That’s a really nice feature to include! Looking it up:

Damn, that price is not compelling though.

I thought the original Switch Charging Grip was cheaper but looking it up, it’s only like $5 cheaper??

Remember how the original Switch came with a thing to slide your Joycons into to make it a controller, minus the charging part? Crazy to imagine now.

was planning on trying to get one of these early but it really is just way too much money for all this shit. think i’m going to hold off, not like i have any shortage of things to play already

oh, the 2 still comes with a regular ass grip. hell, Nintendo doesn’t even list the non-charging grip as a purchasable accessory on their site, just the charging grip. but the regular grip doesn’t have back buttons
