same. to me it’s a lot like the clone wars, but just without the benefit of being able to do 20+ episodes per season. in that case it doesn’t really matter if 2/3 of them are kind of a waste of time.
on top of everything else, it just seems like incredibly bad judgment to do a series where all of the main characters are voiced by the same guy doing the same bad accent
saw episode IX for the first time and I don’t see how the stream show could be worse. Ep 9 was just incoherent, like it made a concerted effort to walk back every good thing that was in Ep8. Also, was all of the Carrie Fischer in ep9 deepfaked or stock footaged? I didn’t think she was around for most of the production on 9?
Recut from footage shot for 8 I think, plus the obviously cg flashback scenes
…
I gotta admit the past two episodes of obi wan have been big improvements. I still don’t love this, but I’m less frustrated by it than I was afraid I would be after the third episode. I guess I rank it behind both seasons of mando but ahead of the bad batch and boba fett as far as the Disney plus shows go.
I don’t really think anyone has figured out a satisfying pace for a 6 - 8 episode series yet though
it’s nuts because in the 80s and 90s there were “mini-series” all over tv. were they all this terrible then? I know I’ve seen anime OAVs that have had five or six episodes that were decent, and Marvel’s What If show did pretty good with not making continuity a thing until the two part finale? I feel like blaming Save The Cat just because I feel like blaming that book for so much
well uh i guess they just don’t care in the same way they didn’t care about anything else which is basically fine i suppose. like it’s the right artistic choice but i don’t know why they decided to make one of those now?
remember “let the past die”? making fun of kylo’s weird darth vader memorabilia fetish?
after five years of reactionary grievance and appeasement we’re here
every story is at most two degrees of separation from darth vader
bringing back the emperor in IX was hack but it had, at the margins, camp value. darth vader here is revolting retrospective sentimentality for live action prequel anakin, one of the least sympathetic character performances I can think of
“criticism” arguing that a story about survivors of order 66 is a trauma narrative because you’re leashed to the mast taking this seriously, diegetically, as if these are factual events you’re merely reporting on and we must solemnly observe revenge of the sith forever
anyone with an idea is lucky to hide it in a book or comic while the disney plus content is wholly fanservice in aesthetic if not narrative stasis
OK so after the third episode nadir I feel like things picked up and I actually ended up really enjoying the last few episodes. It is my curse in life to be tormented by my love for this franchise, and plagued by both its sea of haters and its intolerable fan base
after watching a 45 minute video on youtube about how the battle droids deserved better (the “twinks of the star wars universe”) it really made me remember how much i loved the droids in the prequels. the droidikas, the battle droids, the pit droids… disappointed from reading this thread that the large amount of star wars shows and movies being made now are about important canon characters and not about goofy droid hijinks that dont involve r2d2 or c3po
list of favorite droids that i remember off the top of my head:
battle droids. theyre cute in that theyre incompetent and say roger roger a lot. i remember having stickers of them everywhere after ep 1 came out because i loved them almost as much as podracing, which i liked so much that i wrote down that podracing should be a extra mode in super smash bros 2.
the little droid on the death star in a new hope that sings a little ditty before being scared off by chewbacca. its little sounds has been stuck in my head for my entire life.
pit droids. i like that they fold up or fold out when you bop them on the nose. think my favorite design really.
droidikas (i have no idea how they are spelled. the rolly pollys in the prequels). theyre really cool because they roll in, set up, and shoot 439204593 lasers at once. just seemed like the opposite of battle droids in that they are good at what they do, which is shooting, unless its at jedi, in which case they are not good, magically. i loved playing as one in jedi power battles. also like the little crab steps they do on theyre little legs when theyre folded out.
the trash bin shaped lookin fellow with legs that i think the jawas try to sell to luke? that or they show up in the sand crawler? theyre slow as fuck and i have no idea what theyre supposed to do. love them
is general grevious a droid? i remember him being cool. i never saw the cartoons so thats all i think about him. as you can tell by my list though hes not as cool as droidikas
theres the angry one from kings of the old republic that calls people meatbags. thats all i remember about him and that also people really thought he was funny. i think i remember someone saying it was like they put bender from futurama into star wars but more murder-y. my strongest memories of that game were my friends who had it showing their characters at the end of the game and spoiling everything for me to show off all the cool force powers they had.
