if we never see a member of the skywalker family in this godforsaken franchise again, it would be too soon.
Of course, the people running disney and star wars nowadays can’t imagine story telling without making stories about a dynasty pre-ordained to be the most important people in the universe because that’s how they see themselves.
This pathological focus on the skywalkers has had the effect of narrowing the scope of the setting to the point that it has no imaginative potential anymore.
Star Wars is a setting free of mystery and wonder. The prequels were only the start of this, in their attempts to give answers to questions no one was asking.
I think there is a difference between a set of movies explicitly about “how did we get to the events of the original movies, especially Darth Vader” and what Disney’s doing.
Disney is moving into the turf that used to be weird side stories and novels and video games and doing it all over but now without the expanding cast of weirdoes, just increasingly worse versions of old movie characters.
The animated series didn’t even do it as much as the new stuff, in rebels a movie character turning up was either a fun one off, or A BIG DEAL at the end of the season.
The clone wars was about contextualizing why the Jedi and the republic sucked as much as it was trying to make a version of Anakin that was an actual character.
I think the big turning point is Rise of Skywalker and…everything in it.
When do we hit the Hellraiser sequel point where the only way to get the studio to greenlight any sort of sci-fi script is by shoehorning some Star WarsTM element into it?
These pictures and the ones of Ewan MacGregor and Alec Guinness side by side really make me feel like people just have no concept of how much a person can age in ten years
I can’t believe the prequels reduced star wars to being just another story about ruining the life of everyone around you because you met an older Jewish woman
