Sonic CD will always be my favorite for the amazing house music soundtrack alone, but I also love its imaginative maximalism, letting you explore these giant levels and see them in three different eras. Pure CD ROM hype. I don’t care if its a pain to actually play!
Can’t tell if you are being ironic but I guess I never posted in this thread when I played Triple Trouble 16bit, Fallen Stars, and Spark the Electric Jester 1. Which I was playing at the same time I was going through the original trilogy and Mania again. Like all the games are uneven but it is definitely worth playing those 3 fan games which are at the same level of 2 and 3 at times.
Spark is too long and TT16bit gets unnecessarily cruel at the end.
Also throw Sonic Advance 1 on the pile it is maybe the most like a 16 bit Sonic any Sonic game this century has been.
I am going to play more Sonic fan games this year but pretty sure I’ve seen the best they got. Spark’s dev has 2 Sonic Sonic games but they look very rough in comparison and the epicness you imagine sonic fan games to have.
this sounds like too much of a fan wishlist to be accurate, but just in case:
holy shit
Now add her in Mania, cowards.
this is cool and all and i know it’s not actually any good but i still wanted Chaotix on there. why is this one somehow not ported over the years but there’s now multiple ways to pay and play Sonic Labyrinth?
I’ve been pining for that too, just to bask in that game’s weirdness on modern screens and my guess is trouble with 32x emulation or just wanting to pretend at the sega corporate level that platform didn’t exist
32x truthers
Sega just wants to maintain the illusion that Chaotix is The Thinking Man’s Sonic, as opposed to a piece of crap with a fun soundtrack. Beating that game is a scar I wear with shame/pride.
one thing they should bring back from chaotix for the next 2d game is the day/night cycle that’s entirely cosmetic
