What do you think they’ll add? Spinball? No way they’ll add 32X games, right??

my guess is some of the 8-bit games

I just hope they fix the issues the original release had, like they did with Sonic Manica Plus

Thanks to a Steam review for Sonic Origins, I’ve been messing around with Sonic Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute, Sonic 3 A.I.R, and the Sonic 2 HD demo.

It took a full hour for me to stop holding down one of the buttons because of Mario brain, but I got there.

Sonic 1 as Tails feels like a twist on Kirby. It’s the Funky Mode of Sonic games. You can even fox paddle through the underwater bits.

I want an alternate universe where this chad superhero voice was Sonic’s canon English voice. ā€œGOT TO SPEED, MY KIDS! HAHAHAā€

Oh actually now that I think about it, he sounds like Joe Chin from Parappa lol

Took me like 20 tries, then a YouTube video, then 10 more tries for Knuckles vs. Death Egg Robot in Sonic 2. I never cared that he couldn’t jump as high as Sonic until this very night.

Yeah I abandoned a Knuckles in S2 run pretty early on and then also a Knucks Mania run because playing as Knuckles sucks!

Now that I’ve played a ton of 2D Sonic I’ve got an opinion:

Absolute > Forever > AIR

I have the most nostalgia for 2 and it has the best early zones. They’re arcade-y. I’d spend quarters to keep playing them if I had to. I’ll echo @felix who said it has the best aesthetic (1 is rough and 3 is too busy). Unlike a lot of people, I don’t mind the halfpipe special stages, especially with the smoother scrolling of the remaster. They’re easy to get to and finish so they’re not breaking my flow.

I only played the Game Gear version of Sonic 1 growing up, so Forever’s like this hidden gem for me. It mostly doesn’t utilize Sonic’s speed, but it’s a decent little platformer that’s super manageable to get through. I’ve run through it with every character (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy) and I went back to grab all the emeralds on each file after bumping the requirement from 6 to 7.

In contrast, I find 3 & Knuckles tiring: the levels are long and I don’t like the bonus stages or the special stages. I’ve finished it twice so far (Sonic and Tails separately) with only one or two emeralds each time. Even though a few of the zones are really great, I took a break between almost all of them.

Don’t know where I’d put CD and Mania yet, but I’d probably stick them with 3: very good games that just aren’t quite what I’m looking for. I enjoyed Triple Trouble for the same reasons I enjoyed Forever, but don’t know that I’ll revisit it. I will probably go back for the emeralds in Mania at some point.

I had a friend on messenger just tell me his ranking is 1 > 3&k > 2 and I like this whole conversation. Shame they stopped making Sonic games, I guess.

I’m the only person in the world it seems who considers Sonic 3 a separate game on its own, and better than S3&K which is too long and has some of my least favourite zones.

Ice Cap and Launch Base are probably 2 of the best levels out of the whole S3&K project but whenever I start having this conversation I keep circling back around to ā€œthey were all incredibly incredibly uneven until maniaā€

the best part of S3&K is like, Ice Cap through Flying Battery
