I’d advise against the right arm pressure thing, it’s pretty easy to press too hard and make the chord go sharp that way. also in ~15 years of playing guitar I’ve never had to play an F bar chord. if you’re doing cowboy chord stuff where it’d even make sense to play that F shape it’s usually easier to just do the thumb wrap-around thing.
Somehow it’s easier for me to form an F barre than the thumbed F, I have long stupid hands. I also like the sound better. So I keep playing the barre even though all guitarists are like “no don’t do that”
it’s actually pretty hard to just shop for not so much scale length but nut width - Fender still make plenty of shortscales but they’re still like 42mm at the nut, a problem
think the narrowest they currently vend is the squier paranormal supersonic at 40mm (24" scale)
I’ve always been a fan of just playing the bottom 4 strings of barre chords. Before I got good at them I just did that and sometimes it’s just better to play less strings on any chord or hit the bottom strings on the change and then add the other strings later in the measure.
ooo that warren ellis stang is a beauty, it’s like a duo-stang or something.
what string gauge do you all play? i’m thinking about switching to 8’s, I have a couple sets I bought to try out.anyways maybe this is more for the guitar center thread
i’ve been trying to learn fingerstyle recently and really struggling in a way i just don’t with pick, i think because it’s just so new to me. got down an arrangement of happy birthday (mostly) and trying to learn jeff buckley’s “hallelujah”. getting better at those changes to/from F
C, Am, C, Am, F, G, C, G
C, F-G-Am, F, G, E, Am,,
F,,, Am,,,, F,,,, C, G, C, G
8s all day
i’ve tried pretty much everything from that to 13s and i like an easier life
action can be a bit of a prick with a light gauge but if you feel better you ultimately sound better
