I’m four tracks in and yeah, this is amazing, I love it. I’m really connecting with your singing and the feel of the recordings reminds me of Nick Drake for some reason. I remember listening to some of your music maaaany years ago and thinking you’re a musical genius. Nothing about that changed and I’m sorry for myself because I didn’t keep up with your work.

my weeklybeat before I forget to post it

These are my very favorites after listening to everything several times. I didn’t know the originals, checked them out and they’re great but your versions are even better.

@Gate88 @meauxdal I saw the vgm posted and remembered that the Plogue chipsynthMD I’ve been using a lot can play those back so I made a quick recording of it. Might be cool to compare with the hardware.

definitely sounds more open but that could be 41.1k 24bit wav vs. youtube compression

it is interesting the differences between my recording and ghosto’s

i did not do anything to keep the signal chain particularly pure, nor did i change any defaults (there are tons of options for audio in the MiSTer genesis core settings)

i gotta be honest, i think the MiSTer core sounds a bit better. there is one specific spot where it’s night and day for me. the Plogue sounds great in ensemble moments, nice crisp balance, but it lacks some bite and in particular doesn’t feel quite as lively at ~1:35, where everything drops away and you get a particularly characteristic genesis (yamaha FM) resonance. the MiSTer sounds heavenly here and the Plogue just doesn’t quite feel right. it’s not exactly just a filter thing to my ears, the MiSTer recording seems to have a significantly different character here

i definitely introduced some extra noise in my recording, though… the Plogue’s all digital nature helps the percussion pop out a little more, too. i should try to capture the direct 96KHz audio from HDMI at some point instead of doing DAC and then ADC… kinda stupid to do it the way i’m doing it in terms of audio purity

I agree that the MiSTER sounds much better. It’s really nice.

I’d like to hear the digital transfer. Maybe it will sound worse. Transferring from digital to analog and back again may smooth out the signal and impart other good things too.

I dunno if this will embed properly but I’ve been working on a midi mock-up of a 60’s/70’s inspired tokusatsu song. Something sadder that would be used for an ending or emotional moment. Eventually I’ll write some lyrics and replace the vocal instrument with singing. Also, the cover and name aren’t exactly relevant to the song, I just sort of threw them together so that the space wasn’t empty.

compiled all the techno weeklybeats tracks I wrote this year into a bandcamp release

wasn’t originally planning on releasing them like this but I realized they’re as good a chronicle of this year as I’ve ever had, and it’s not every year I’m actually this “prolific”

Well, they didn’t do a Bandcamp Friday on New Year but I didn’t want to miss a month so here is my January thing.
