oh god damn it I missed a ribbon and then got the ribbon class
Iâd say Dragoon is worse, in that it has less synergy with other jobs (I think the only job that truly complements it is Magic Knightâcan lances be spelled?), Jump is too unpredictable when only one party member can do it, and it doesnât do anything other âheavyâ jobs donât also do and better. The Dancerâs Sword Dance, with the right set-up, can semi-consistently do top-tier damage, even without complementary abilities. Granted, that doesnât really happen until at least the third world, after you power up the Chicken Knife, but Iâd say thereâs no point at which Dragoon is better than middling.
lances cant be enchanted unfortunately yeah, dragoon is fairly mediocre even though i always end up using one (and will have to this time!) because theyâre like, the coolest final fantasy knight class
mystic knight is honestly pretty great on their own though
Clearly I am getting the party party.
Thieves as a class were included in Final Fantasy because they were in D&D / Wizardry, though here there are no traps to defuse, chests to unlock, enemies to ambush or anything.
So thieves get « stealing from enemies » instead which makes no logical sense (why not plunder the object from their corpses instead?) And they have a 1/4 success rate so far. As far as item quality goes : I stole a basic potion from their first boss. Off to a great start
It makes sense because monsters donât leave corpses, they visibly disintegrate
The magic of Final Fantasy is how it makes a pile of individually janky aspects somehow cohere into a less janky whole
one thing that is going to help me immensely with this set up is blue mage + beastmaster means my entire team now has access to white wind. vampire has been doing a lot of work, but white wind frees up a lot of those turns, which is nice considering dancer is a front row class with no heavy armor and no shield. now instead of my dancer being consigned to vampire spam for half the game, they can fish for sword dance and get the vampire equivalent dance instead!
ive been messing around with the FF1 randomizer and if you mess with it too much it can basically create your own custom procedurally generated FF game, which is fuckin rad but so far is not worth the wait for the ROM to download. but it does add the ability to give your thief a lockpick ability that activates at a chosen/random level, and will activate in place of the magic key
Well, fuck me very much. Watch me get Berserker as the final job.
Accepting submissions for party member namesâŠthis is your chance to attain immortalityâŠ,
Hereâs what I got, regular run:
Iâve never beaten FF5, but I did the 4JF a few years ago and got to Ex Death but never beat him. I had a chemist so I should have been able to but I didnât look too hard for exploits and I kind of rushed through the game.
So, how hard is this run going to be? Never used Blue Mage, Geomancer, or Dancer before.
Holy fucking shit I finally beat the Water tower, goddammit. That took way too many tries (like 4) and was gruelling but now I can finally get another job that totally does lots of damage now, such as theâŠ
(looks at sheet)
Summoner.
Fuck.
Megadeth Stranding
Pinkie Khaleesi
Jenni âGilâ Silver
Jon Dough
Krile
Gonna stream miffy and I doing job fiestaâŠsimultaneously. We will see who finishes first! Who dies the least! I have beaten this game before! Miffy has never played it! I bet Iâm better than her!! I made a special overlay for this! Please watch!

Guess whoâs who
your geomancer is just going to be a blue mage as the geomancer job
This seems like easily the worst team here outside of HOBOâs cursed Thief / Berserk / Dragoon / Bard team TBH
My advice would be looking up which monsters know White wind and Big guard, and have the dancer confuse them so they have a chance to use the skills on the team (this might not work)
It is very funny how none of these fucking thief skills help you win fights. Just the biggest loser fuckface job. What a nightmare. Im having a great time.
The Water Tower heard me talking shit because my first job was Knight, and I was just mashing A through everything, so now I get to mash A half as often because it has gifted me with Berserker.
Hard disagree; although you have to work at it, Blue Mage is easily one of the most useful jobs in the game, and should more than make up for any issues with anyone else. Not only can it use rodsâa big bonus in the early game, when youâre not likely to have many spellsâit also has tons of useful synergy with your other members; your dancerâs dance has a one-in-four chance of confusingâhelpful for learning buffsâand since Blue Mages can use swords, it means you get to use them as a second mystic knight, which is also super-useful, since enchanted swordsâlike Drain or Breakâalways hit. Even Geomancer isnât super-terrible here, since it at least prevents you from taking damage when the floor is lava, which is normally a pain in the ass, and you can use it as a second blue mage, as geist said. The only real liability is an inability to reliably do BIG DAMAGE to groups, which is far from a dealbreaker.
(You also donât have a path to beat Omega or Shinryu, but thatâs no big deal.)
Fair butI feel like most other party comps here have an easier path to success
I thought using abilities from other jobs wasnât really in the spirit of the challenge? TBH itâs not very clear

The only real liability is an inability to reliably do BIG DAMAGE to groups, which is far from a dealbreaker.
What about Aqua Breath?
