SB game idea megathread

Rain Jerks
It’s a top-down dodge-em-up. You have to travel from place to place in Tokyo, but salarymen grunt and try to hit you with their umbrellas.

concept for hip-hop brutal legend/suikoden

introducing the mixtape system:

  • all songs in the game have a root rap soul (north, south, west, prophetic, wisdom, chaos, beauty, gaea, love) and a collection of stat buffs and debuffs.
  • these stat changes are put into effect when they become a part of your active mixtape. by default, you can have up to 16 songs on your mixtape.
  • before entering the battle theatre, it’s a good idea to analyze context, who is visible on the field, and what their strengths/weaknesses are. the songs you decide to put on your tape can either be informed by this, or by taste. if you are confident your party is strong enough without any buffs, you can just put whatever you want on the tape

I had this idea for a cyberpunk ish sort of eduware game for learning a foreign language. You would work for some sort of body cybermod shop and your boss would give you various oddjobs to related to the business. Basically some aspects of the business include:

  • dealing with gangsters asking for protection money, hiring gansters to sabotage other modshops etc
  • mining the Cyberweb for Digibits to craft new mods for the shop
  • infiltrating the Cybercorps that run your area of the city to steal technology
  • attending meetings of the local business community to advocate for your place’s interests
  • minigames to do with decorating the shop to attract customers
  • managing inventory for max profits. you need to explore the neighbourhood to gauge the demand for different mods. for instance the Cybercorps expand their scholarship program, and hence demand for smartmods to pass their entrance exam increases
+various cute side quests given to you by local denizens.
  • expansion of the business

All this has to be done in a multilingual cyberpunk city setting. There would be a basic word/phrase drill minigame that would represent basic mining of digibits. hacking would be represented by a sort of captcha routine where you have to answer basic questions in the foreign language. you would eventually progress to being able to use the language to speak to npcs and do more and more in the game. in the game you would play as an immigrant speaking [your actual 1st language] within a city where most people speak [the language you are actually trying to learn[

Quests in multiple languages is fucking dope. Learn a whole new language to get a whole new set of quests. Fucking dope.

action game where the hero has some kind of degenerative disease, so the difficulty of enemies and such stays the same throughout the game, but the game gets harder through your character gradually getting weaker and losing abilities

LISA RPG tried this, was best thing tried

It is a neat mechanic, yeah. The Warcraft III expansion did that too, in the undead campaign. It was super great because it meant you had to rely on Anub’arak who is a giant adorable bug.

There’s a horror RPG called Bloodlust (link) that does this, in that leveling up reduces your stats. Not an action game but hey. I think it’s neat.

sword & sworcery does exactly this

I’d like to design a D&D campaign which is for one player and centers around creative uses of the Bag of Holding (which may require tweaking some of the rules, which only serve to make an otherwise interesting item more boring)

You mean letting players do the old ‘turn the bag inside out and walk through walls’ trick?

D:

Using it to drain bodies of water, capture guards caught unawares by using it like a cartoon pocket hole, etc etc. Just encourage them to go nuts

The portable hole is the dnd ism for a cartoon pocket hole. The arcane spell rope trick is a lot of fun for similar reasons

2D walking simulator. Short walks, with no obstructions.

That’s been done though, how about a sitting in the park and feeding the ducks simulator?
Bonus points for feeding the duck with the one leg

This doesn’t have feeding, but you sit and watch ducks and maybe you only have one leg: http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/2274

There was a Knytt Stories level that was just that.

It was called something like a Walk at Night, right? Anna Anthropy recommended that one iirc

Yeah, that probably was the one
