Minstrel Song remaster for every platform (except xbox)
SaGa Frontier 2 and Unlimited SaGa have been skipped
minstrel song with faster loads ![]()
huh, neat. i always really liked this remake in spite of not liking the big-head mode art direction the game went with for whatever reason
oh, gdi
not surprised about Unlimited (sadly), but does this mean the SF2 remaster has been canned?
The 90s and their leftovers were quite a time
unlimited sagas whole thing when it came out was being THE HARDEST JRPG EVER
the back of the box has that fucking font too
sketch motion!
Has Saga Frontier 2 remake been canceled? If so, I will start the PSX version on my Vita
Decided to start the Psx game on the vita. Played for a couple of hours, it’s giving me great vibes and it’s graphically gorgeous.
Combos during party fights are discovered by the characters in the usual Saga way, by using a weapon fight option repeatedly.
I have tried to do the same with magic (tree wand), but it keeps doing only the basic attack without discovering anything. Does it work differently from normally discovered weapon skills?
Apart from this, it has interesting additions like Duel options and a way of storytelling half reminiscent of Saga Frontier 1.
I remember having read in the forum that this game is particularly messy or confusing, but coming from Saga Frontier 1, I wouldn’t say so.
It’s definitely giving me good vines, anyway.
just wait for the rts lol
but no SF2 is really pretty astounding
Ahah I read that the rts part is dreaded
Did you finish Sf2?
unfortunately, no, because of the rts
i’ve always meant to go back to it and try again, but here we are, 20 years later
i finally beat all of the characters in saga frontier and more games should have a dev room reward
disagreed!
The Minstrel Song Remaster is out today! Minstrel Song is one of my favorite SaGa games, and here’s too much to say about it if you want.
It’s got a brilliant and stupid progression system based on how many encounters you fight. The game’s world changes as the counter goes up over the course of about 20 hours and then you talk to a guy who exists in every town’s bar to unlock the final boss. That’s the whole journey - it can be freeing to abandon all miserable hopes of powergaming, since quests fall in and out of availability, and allowing chaos to embrace you seeing as the end will always approach the same way.
It’s got the deepest party optimization in any SaGa game because there’s no unique spark trees, every character can learn every technique equally. Each character has stat growth values and each type of weapon and magic has stat growth values and the two get SaGa mathed together to create the final growths - combine this with the game’s class system to allow for big dreaming character building. The only bad characters are the ones you can’t recruit until the end!
It’s got what is probably Kawazu’s most thematically cohesive bit of narrative, a story about leadership in failing power structures sitting on their hands atop their thrones while their peoples bear the brunt of the consequence from their actions. The writing is proper noun heavy and dry, but it sometimes gets read out by a English voice actor performing their pocket Snagglepuss impression, and it’s both very good and ultimately necessary to the aesthetic.
The game has fast forward, faster travel, and a worse UI and font now! You can do worse if you’re in the mood for a SaGa game.
i’ve wanted to play minstrel song for an eternity, so I’m definitely getting this at some point. I have a thing that I try to stick to where I don’t buy any game that costs more than five bucks unless I plan on playing it exactly when I buy it. so whenever I feel it in my bones, I will saga
i remember seeing trailers for the original and thinking huh, those textures look sort of nice
they’ve added an event rank indicator and an “event rank growth speed” toggle to the remaster
not sure if this is just ‘qol’ or ‘not getting it’
To be fair the event rank growth speed looks like it has two options:
“Normal” – original PS2 Japanese speed
“Slow” – original PS2 English version speed
so whether you want to argue we should’ve never really had a slower speed version, i think you’d definitely have to include it as an option to match now
ahhh, i had no idea they altered it for the western release
