nice
rs3 is nowhere near as stressful and the one brutal nightmare boss is hidden away in the remaster-exclusive bonus dungeon
if you use NG+, Fuse’s boss rush scenario is maybe 20 minutes per case file, fyi, and they serve as nice epilogues (especially for emilia)
I totally agree with Tulpa. I am doing the Fuse chapters and they are some of the best bits of the game, as they give deserved completions to all the other stories, and because they have great tone.
As far as the other stories go, Asellus and Emelia are the best ones, followed by the mech and Blue.
Red, while probably the best as an introduction of the game, is the most childish and least enjoyable of all.
I don’t regret having done all the stories, but Lute is totally skippable imo, and Red and Riki follow closely… but at least doing these two tells more about the whole work.
Has anybody done the final boss rush with Fuse? The one after obtaining the other endings. Apparently it should be super difficult, so I’d like to know if it’s worth the effort.
The Fuse case files give some interesting extra details to the stories, but they’re also completely non-canonical with which is kinda weird.
The Blue one is the worst because it completely glosses over the original ending’s main quirk
will this be the thread for Legend of Mana Remaster?
Which I guess is now ∓ 24 hours from release
the details I know:
- Switch, PS4, Windows (Steam); $30 USD / £24.99; Digital only outside Japan, but physical Japanese/Asian releases apparently have all languages; 5.1 GB on Switch and 13 GB (?) on Steam
- Widescreen format with 2D painted backgrounds made HD (method: ???); many but not all UI/art elements are also cleaner; character sprites untouched
- Drastically reduced load times/combat lag
- English localization has been tweaked and occasionally rewritten; now supports French, German, Spanish, Korean and Chinese
- New in-game options menu features:
- Optional “reorchestrated” soundtrack (probably uncompressed/new instrument samples)
- Always able to switch NPC party members to second-player control
- Set regular movement to walk or run, choose whether you use the other by holding button or as a toggle
- Manual (almost-)anywhere save or every-screen-change autosave
- Ability to disable enemy encounters (presumably does not apply to bosses/fixed battles)
- “New” content:
- The typically simplistic monster-raising Pocketstation game “Ring-Ring Land”, disabled in the US version, has been implemented as a minigame
- Music test accessible in options menu from start of game
- New artwork gallery accessible in same menu
- New medium-low effort anime opening with cute touches that replaces(?) ‘literally a game trailer’ original opening
CURRENTLY UNKNOWNS:
- If there’s any way to have the second player import/control their own character (originally required putting their memory card in slot 2)
- How the tiny amount of crossover content is handled (a few untracked bonuses for Final Fantasy VIII, SaGa Frontier 2 and Chocobo Racing…maybe more in Japan)
I could think of about a dozen or two additional changes/options to make without adding new content, but mainly because I already know how obtuse the game can be.
original version can be had on PS3, PSP, Vita for $6 if that’s your way.
only got about a week left to grab it on PSP, tho?
they say 30th anniversary of mana because Final Fantasy Adventure. It’s the 21st anniversary of the “Summer of Adventure”. It’s 34 years since the name “Seiken Densetsu” was trademarked.
Are you waiting for another dream tale…
Seems like it’s already out on Switch
What’s the general opinion on the original around here? I’ve heard it called the black sheep of the series, how does it differ from the other Mana games?
I don’t have very fond memories of it but should probably see how it holds up. It’s a weird confusing game, much less straightforward than the other Mana games and closer to SaGa in its structure. The tone is all over the place and I approached each new quest thinking « allright. What kind of nonsense am I getting myself into »
I think the new translation will help the game immensely, because frankly I could barely tell what was going on during most of the game
The battle system sucks a lot and lacks the sort of ARPG sloppiness that made FFA’s and SD3’s battles charming and enjoyable
The remaster sadly does the classic remaster bad compromise of having higher res backgrounds + original low res sprites and it looks jarring
An improv comic borrowed my copy of Legend of Mana and never returned it and I’ve held a grudge against him and all improv comics ever since.
i love Legend of Mana. it can get a little confusing sometimes, but the music and graphics are beautiful and it has a really breezy feel to it.
i like to replay it every few years?
Is red’s story the only one with battle #5?
Nah it’s at least in Asellus’ story too (vs the bat boss)
i mean i would definitely fuck a slime but bruh, not like this
Seeing those images makes me kind of wish that I’d stuck with the mobile game. I love the ending to the original SaGa and seeing it recreated like this is nice.
Having a chance to play Romancing Saga 2 either as a remaster on the Switch or as original game SNES (through the Wii U gamepad), my question is: are there any reasons to go for one over the other?
snes version isn’t translated properly if that’s an issue
the remaster has new graphics and animations + runs kinda jerkily, a bonus dungeon featuring several items that are very overpowered, two new classes and one of the best formations in the game. there’s also a new game + you can start at any time, nice for farming the permanently missable ‘no mind status effects’ ring hidden behind a fireplace in the first dungeon
if you’re playing it in japanese on wii/wii-u vc, the bonus content is in there as… dlc (was actually meaning to ask in quick questions if anyone knows of any other virtual console releases that do this, seems kinda interesting)
personally if i could play the snes version in english on a crt that’d be my pick but the remaster is fine
my boy Tomato just glimmered an instant kill skill that wiped the entire boss party
@idiot I just met Chiago, this guy is incredible
Is Saga Frontier 2 still coming out for the new consoles?
