Retroid Pocket 2: The Thread

No the quote says the second meaning the right.

why would they do this

mine’s been dispatched

Same! Wow Wow!

Dang I probably ordered mine like twelve hours too late :frowning:

If only I had like a dozen other ways to play Super Mario World…dang…

Still really looking forward to this thing!

Oh wait, shipment notification received. Heck yeah.

Somebody on the retroid subreddit said that they were told there was a problem with a batch of indigo units and those might end up going out later, which is a bummmmerrrr. Especially now that I’m seeing a bunch of people who ordered around when I (/a lot of us here, I think?) did getting their shipping notifications.

So the right analog stick is 1) separate from the d pad and 2) digital but with what looks like 2 levels of activation in each of eight directions (plus no activation in the center position).

So at least it simulates an analog stick.

I wonder if this will be good enough to play ape escape?

Reiterating: in the Retroid OS the left analog stick and left d-pad are mapped to the same inputs. But not in Android. I say right up in my previous post but this was an unfortunately confusing mistake.

hm, not seeing that in the video. looks like a straight up 8-way digital input mapped to a thumbstick

He doesn’t do a good job of demonstrating it but if you look I believe it has 2 activation levels.

watching the video frame-by-frame i still fail to see anything other than 8 positions+neutral for the second stick. what am i missing?

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

unless there’s something that is straight up not shown in the video this is all you get

Hm - I may have been mislead by the fact that the diagonals cross the circle but the cardinals don’t. Fucked by the square root of 2 once again.

that’s pretty disappointing but yeah given retro consoles mostly: have no sticks, n64: has one stick, dreamcast: has one stick, and you can probably map n64 c-buttons to it like on gamecube, it’s not the worst thing in the world.

as mentioned earlier, ape escape will be the main questionable thing

the tracking on mine says that my unit is currently sitting over the san mateo bridge right now so I’m guessing I’ll get it pretty soon

mine is already in the uk

I’m delaying mine a day via DHL so I’m actually home to sign for it, but it should be here Tuesday.

What the heck! My tracking has not worked at all. Hmmphh.

Yeah, I brought up Taki Udon’s shady, bullshit shilling up a few times in my thread about handheld emulation devices.

Now I’m kinda bummed that I won’t be home to sign for this thing til Tuesday, because I’m pretty sure this thing will be in Texas like…today.

I’m considering cancelling my order and getting an RG350 instead. Thoughts?
