Retroid Pocket 2: The Thread

I want to hear more about what people plan to play on this guy?

I’m looking forward to playing:

  1. The Ancient Cave Romhack of FFV
  2. Lufia 2
  3. Metal Gear Solid
  4. The Mega Man Legends games
  5. FF8 (but maybe I’d rather play the version on Switch)
  6. Yoshi’s Island
  7. Brain Lord (SNES)

And a bunch of stuff you all recommend to me.

I ordered the PS2 version. I’m excited to play:

Mother 3
Replay any of the PS1 Resident Evils
Felix’ Final Fantasy Tactics romhack
Link’s Awakening
Maybe FFIX, I guess?
Blue Stinger and Illbleed
FFVI
Parasite Eve!!

and, if it proves intuitive and runs well, I might be able to play the DS port of Flower, Sun, Rain

This is a good place to ask why there isn’t

  1. A romhack of Mega Man Legends that adds a modern camera system.
  2. A hack of Vagrant Story that makes it not impossibly fiddly.

A hack of Alien Soldier that uses the six button controller to give you a dedicated button for each of your three weapon slots.

Ah dang, apparently there’s a way to get them to upgrade shipping to DHL from whatever the hell 4PX is, for an extra $15 or so.

Difference of like, waiting a month for it to arrive vs. a few days.

C’moooon Taki, please see my email ;n;

Can you elaborate on this?

Generally speaking how’s the comfort and button feel for the market? I’ve always associated these devices with discomfort so people saying it felt like Vita buttons is what stood out to me.

(I’m not familiar with 4PX, but there seem to be a lot of people who opted for DHL and are getting it a few days after it ships)

But is there any indication that changing the shipping will result in dramatically shorter shipping times?

Not too sure, honestly. Mostly just paranoia on my part (that, and my local post office has been messing up deliveries lately, so I’d hate to wait for it and them to up and lose it).

curious to hear poster impressions upon receipt, screen quality, input comfort, n64 emulation performance in particular

Obviously the language barrier could cause errors but one way is we should receive our systems by the 25. Either way I will probably have mine before y’all because of location.

I am excited!!! Zero Mission!

Got my shipping upgraded (cool!), but it’s also, uhh, past the date they said they were gonna ship the first batch, so I’m pretty sure my 11th hour order in US time is firmly “second batch” in China hours. Ah dang.

Looking at the reddit for this thing and a lot of folks are bungling theirs by upgrading certain apps, or deleting default ones. That seems, uh, not great!

At the same time, though, I dunno why you wouldn’t just…use Retroarch? It’s right there!

(I mean I get that some Android apps are more optimized for this sort of thing, but still)

“Everyone I’ve seen cover this has left a rather crucial bit of info out of their reviews.
The second analog stick doesn’t actually register analog movement. It’s basically a second D-pad and from personal experience, it’s not great.” - Youtube comment

Apparently from another review I watched that’s just in the default OS/emulator, but custom emulators on the Android side can deal with them separately.

I think you are talking about something else. In the Retroid OS the D pad and the right analog stick are mapped to the same inputs. You can’t use them separately.

Rudie seems to be suggesting that the left analog stick is not actually analog but entirely digital.

I don’t really know - my understanding from various sources is that it does have multiple levels of sensitivity but the underlying mechanism is digital but when I write that out it seems silly. I’m sure even regular analog sticks are actually digital in their implementation.

Oh whoops yeah misread sorry
