Retroid Pocket 2: The Thread

I just couldn’t stop myself. got the “retro” version, I just love those cherry red buttons

I will play ALL of the PS1 games

I will order one eventually. I know damn well I’ll fire it up, try out a few games and think “man this is really neat!”, then put it on the shelf with my RG350 and never touch it again.

Is the battery user replaceable?

Looks like I missed the first window by a few hours! You had to order by the 28th America time. Well sitting by my inbox for the next 25 days.

Just curious about what people who ordered one/probably will order one are after in terms of color.

  • RMS (black body, red/white/blue start/select buttons)
  • 8-bit (black body, red face/shoulder buttons)
  • RS2 (black PS2-ish)
  • RS1 (gray PS1-ish)
  • 16Bit US (SNES)
  • 16 Bit (SFC)
  • Retro (GB)
  • Orange (GBP; looks yellow to me tbh)
  • Blue (?)
  • Pink (GBA?)
  • Indigo (GBA)

I’m glad I’ll (hopefully) get mine in September instead of it only just shipping in late September, but I’m half kicking myself for not waiting for that PS2-ish one, or goin’ Indigo.

Blue is gonna be good, though.

Speaking of colors, does anyone know what the reference point/inspiration is for the pink and blue ones? I thought OG GBAs at first, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Or are they just original designs that look nice (the nerve!)?

i had a pink gbc, but it was much brighter and with black buttons, so probably not the reference

Orange looks yellow. It’s a sin that it’s not Gamecube spice orange!

Yeah none of the colors line up neatly with any game hardware that I can recall

The orange should be Spice Orange yes and the pink isn’t as good as Milky Pink but it’s not bad. I would go pink if I got one of these.

I know we have a thread for griping about Retroarch, and maybe I’m just being naive, but damn I’m glad this thing runs it as opposed to most everything else running OpenDingux and the mishmash of emulators out there for that OS.

Trying to remap buttons on my PocketGo V2 to play some six button Genesis games and it’s giving me The Business because ah whoops, it already has shit like save states and fast forward mapped to the extra buttons.

Mostly looking forward to this thing not having the constant super high pitched whine that the PocketGo V2 has. I mean, I’m assuming it doesn’t. I hope it doesn’t.

Retroarch is terrible on phones because it has really bad touch-screen controller support but I think with a dedicated controller hooked up it should be pretty good.

Btw am 100% reading the results of this like y’all’s palms. Learning so much about you.

what point?

surely the point where you have exhausted and newly re-internalized all available World content and have regrettably returned to waiting for the secret, but always-planned, expanded anniversary DX re-master that the proud information advocates of the mega leak have now forced Tezuka-kun’s personal hand on releasing?

I always dip around uhhh the second or third ghost house.

Nothing against the game! It’s just as far as I get, all the times I’ve played it.

Still no shipping notice for me just yet. Gotta imagine this thing sold pretty well? I mean, it’s gonna get outclassed in a week or two, the way these things are advancing, but I’m looking forward to messing with it, maybe playing a shitload of Goemon games on it.

I was gonna guess one of the bridges, that’s a real noticeable difficulty spike (and they even ease off once you get into the woods).

That might be it, actually?

It’s not a bad game, by any means! I was just an NES/Genesis kid - it’s taking me time to learn this sucker :frowning:

It got kinda lost in the shuffle with the new colors/launch windows and whatnot, but apparently this thing is getting both an Android kernel update, as well as an update to Android 8.0.

Still out of date, but should hopefully make it compatible with more emulators and Android apps (hoping ReDream will work on it, but who knows).

I want this to play on the bus to school (once I finish teaching in November I lose my parking spot). That way I can play Chrono Cross while getting Covid.

I bought the purple one. I want gamecube vibes even though this won’t play gamecube games.
