RESIDENT EVIL....

director’s cut or dualshock director’s cut with the bad soundtrack

Years ago as a terrified kid clutching a guide I’m pretty sure I made it to the Basement in the Dual Shock version. So I at least got to experience that true terror. But nah, standard DC.

Yeah, that’s probably the smart thing to do. Alas, I’ve got 'em all…but really most of my hemming and hawing comes from when and where to play the various remakes and interquels (hoping that’s a word, I guess I could say Revelationseses, which isn’t).

I don’t have the Outbreaks downloaded to emulate, but I’ve probably got Gaiden in this rom set, if I want to be a True Sicko. I did try to play Operation Raccoon City on PC, which was kinda rough.

RE2: most versions are fine, I have a preference for the N64 arrange mode, but I’m not sure if that would make a difference for the first time. Playing AB (I recommend ClaireA/LeonB, but it’s not a deal breaker) is the complete game.
RE3: any version, on hard mode.
RE:CV: PS3 release, if it’s easy to acquire. Has really nice lighting effects not on the DC/PS2 versions that feel like the levels were always intended to have.
RE4: GCN release, or in dolphin with a USB GCN controller. Or, for a less authentic but to some people preferable easier alternative, the Wii version with pointer.
RE5: PC, now that GFWL has been removed. Either play co-op (hmu) or only equip Sheva with hanguns and sniper rifles (you know, feminine guns) because that’s all her AI knows how to use.
RE6: any version, strongly suggest a co-op partner to have someone to talk to so you can ignore the game
RE0: Literally forgot this game existed. It’s fine. I think I enjoyed Leech Hunter bonus mode more than the main game, and Leech Hunter’s not a good game mode. Do not buy the costume DLC for the current release.
RE: Outbreak: as far as I know still can’t play them online in english. Are a strange rougelike experience when played solo, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
RE: ORC: no
Umbrella Corps: Shut up Drem
Umbrella Chronicles/Darkside Chronicles: if you can play these you can play House of the Dead. Play House of the Dead.
All The Survivor Games: Cavia made one of these. None of them will leave an impact on you.

OH RIGHT they also made those revelations games god there are so many RE games.
Revelations 1: I have no experience with the 3DS game, the console port of it feels like a 3DS game running in an emulator.
Revelations 2: any version is functionally identical, but keep in mind it was originally released episodically, so the pacing kind of expected you to take a 5 hour break in RAID MODE after every set of chapters.

I think revelations and revelations 2 are both excellent. play them after RE4 imo.

also the RE4 HD project mod is arguably just as good as playing on gamecube.

also my god RE VII is essential. I just replayed it after binging the 4 remake and it’s still so fucking good.

My rationale for the GCN version is that RE4 is as intrinsically tied to the GCN controller as Mario 64 was to the N64.

I really want to emphasize that 5 is very racist and stupid but it is a great time in co-op, but only in co-op. Do not play in single player, you have been warned

i would start with the playstation trilogy, the remakes of re1/2, and then re4/7/8

then i’d plot what else to play based on how you find those

You don’t actually have to play every re game because like 50% of them are bad…they won’t even let you play operation raccoon city anymore

yeah once you get it set up it works really good. I would love to play outbreak with sb people, that game is amazing

I’ve never played it multiplayer but have struggled through most of the first games levels solo multiple times. Would love to see how it really plays. My vote would be to communicate only with the in-game voice lines if we do play.

yeah this is true but the modern hd port plays well enough with modern-ish controls

there are quite a few games I feel this way about tbh. killer7 is another one of them, also metroid prime.

killer7 is NOT a good game when you play it with the mouse it’s kind of amazing how boring it becomes

killer7 still plays better on dolphin or gc than anything else the sensitivity and delicateness with which you are asked to nudge that control stick is really a delight for me

I still imagine a game for the wii that picks up where killer 7 left off. it’s basically a rails shooter where you control the rails… seems perfect for the wii! and yet no one tried it.
